
Jacksonville State Edges Liberty 3-2 in Match of Unbeaten ASUN Teams

Entering the match as two out of the three teams with unbeaten ASUN records, Jacksonville State and Liberty battled to a five-set conclusion, with the Gamecocks edging Liberty 3-2 (25-28, 25-23, 18-25, 17-25, 15-10), Saturday at Liberty Arena.
With the win, Jacksonville State improves to 16-1, 4-0 in ASUN play. The Gamecocks’ only loss this season came to Auburn on Sept. 17. The Lady Flames fall to 10-6, 3-1 in conference matches after sweeping Kennesaw State last night and falling to JSU in five tonight.
Notable Numbers
• Liberty outhit Jacksonville State .179-.146 for the match. The Lady Flames led 17-9 in blocks, while JSU held a 61-59 advantage in digs and both teams served up five aces. Jacksonville State entered the weekend ranked fifth nationally with a .308 team hitting percentage.
• Trinity Watts posted her first career triple-double, with 15 kills, 13 digs and a match-high and career-high 11 blocks. Kate Phillips totaled 12 kills and 17 digs, while Delaney Dilfer recorded 46 assists, three aces and 11 digs. Lydia Burts scored 10 kills and added eight blocks, while Madison Blane registered a career-high 11 kills (.500) and eight blocks.
• JSU’s Lena Kindermann led all players with 16 kills and five blocks, including seven kills during the decisive fifth set. Courtney Glotzbach registered 14 kills, while Sophie Riemersma sent down 12 kills. Claire Ochs dished out a match-high 50 assists, while Erin Carmichael collected a match-high 21 digs. Zoe Gonzales posted seven blocks.
Turning Point
• Trailing in the match 1-0, Liberty surged into a 17-10 lead after a six-point service run by Dilfer in the second set. After a sideout, JSU scored five points while Glotzbach served, narrowing the gap to 17-16. Liberty still held the lead at 22-21 following Amelia Preston’s kill. However, JSU ended the match on a 4-1 run to take the 25-23 win.
• Liberty won sets three and four to force a fifth set. Kindermann then took over in the final set, scoring seven kills, including kills on the first three serves. Liberty battled back throughout the fifth set before falling 15-10 on Kindermann’s match-clinching kill.

• Jacksonville State is 2-0 all-time against Liberty in volleyball.
• Liberty’s 17 blocks tonight were the team’s second most in a single match this season after posting 17.5 blocks at UC San Diego on Sept. 9.
• Watts is the first Lady Flame to post a triple-double since Jade Craycraft totaled 10 kills, 32 assists and 13 digs on Nov. 8, 2013 against High Point.
• Watts’ 11 blocks tie a Liberty Arena single-match record, as Yaniris Miller-Green of Coppin State posted 11 blocks against Eastern Michigan on Sept. 16, 2022. Watts' 11 blocks were the most by a Lady Flame since Madison Blane totaled 11 blocks on Sept. 26, 2021 at Lipscomb.
• Dilfer has posted double-doubles in three straight matches, giving her a team-leading eight for the season and 14 for her career.
• The Lady Flames are 1-3 in five-set matches this season. Prior to tonight’s set-one loss, Liberty had won 12 straight sets.

The Lady Flames head to Kentucky for their next two matches, beginning on Friday at 5 p.m. at Bellarmine. Liberty then plays at Eastern Kentucky at 2 p.m., Saturday.
