UNC Greensboro took Game 1 of the doubleheader in extra innings, 11-10, earlier in the day.
The Spartans struck first, scoring an unearned run in the top of the first to take an early lead. After Alex Emeterio reached on a fielder's choice, Eileen Horsmon singled to left field and advanced to third on an error by left fielder Meredith Baisden, allowing Emeterio to score.
The Lady Flames tied it up, 1-1, with back-to-back doubles from Amber DePasquale and Kaylee West to lead off the bottom of the second. And Liberty continued the surge. With one out, Bridgett Woods singled to center field, moving West to third. With two outs, J'nae Jefferson singled through the left side to drive in another run and give Liberty a 2-1 lead.
Jenny Law kept the rally going with an RBI single up the middle, Ashley Bensinger drew a walk and Kelly Strickland brought in two more runs with a hard-hit single off the right field fence, putting the Lady Flames up, 5-1.
Liberty extended its lead by two more runs in the bottom of the third. With one out, Baisden doubled to left center, and moved to third when Woods singled up the middle and advanced to second on the throw. With two outs, Jefferson drew a walk, and Jenny Law reached when Spartan second baseman Kayla Hensley dropped a pop fly, allowing two runs to score and give the Lady Flames a 7-1 lead.
UNC Greensboro took advantage of a Liberty miscue in the top of the fourth to bring the score to 7-2, when Horsman scored from third on a muffed throw by catcher Bensinger.
Liberty tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the sixth to seal the victory. Jefferson led off with a walk, and Keely McMillon singled through the left side with one out. After Strickland walked to load the bases, DePasuale reached on a fielder's choice, and Jefferson was forced out at home.
West followed up with a single to left to score McMillon, and Baisden ended the game with a double to left center that sealed the 10-2 Liberty win.
The Lady Flames were led by West and Baisden, who were both 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Horsmon paced the Spartans, batting 2-for-3.
Kat Johnson (3-2) picked up her third win of the year, giving up three hits and striking out three batters in six complete innings.
Cory Mattson (8-10) suffered the loss, giving up four hits and three earned runs in one and 2.3 innings of work.
With the win, the Lady Flames improve to 19-11, while the Spartans drop to 15-20.
