Turning Point
Liberty built a 3-1 lead after three quarters after a trio of opportunistic goals. The Lady Flames struck first midway through the first period, with Luna Prieri sending a shot through a crowded circle and off a Miami defender for a 1-0 lead at the 7:37 mark. Exactly one minute later, Josefina Tomasi put the Lady Flames up 2-0 following a RedHawks failed clear out of their circle.
Miami cut the deficit in half to 2-1, as Toto Scarlatti scored into the right side at the 19:57 mark. Liberty responded in the 23rd minute to push the lead up to 3-1. Following a pass into the circle that hit off a RedHawks defender's stick, reigning BIG EAST Freshman of the Week Clarisa Iudicello sent a shot from a challenging angle over goalkeeper Nicky Sjouken for her team-leading sixth goal of the year. The Lady Flames took a 3-1 lead at the half.
Liberty carried a 3-1 advantage into the fourth quarter before a flurry of action starting in the 53rd minute. Malena Sabez of the RedHawks scored on a penalty corner into the right side, assisted by Kylie Coughlin and Julia Fernandez, to trim the Liberty lead to 3-2 at the 52:01 mark. Just over 90 seconds later (53:32), Miami's Scarlatti scored on a transition opportunity, flipping a reverse shot from the left side past netminder Diane Saint Martin.
Only 23 seconds later, the Lady Flames regained the lead, as Paris Gail-Isaacs sent a ball into the circle that was redirected in by Pia Iapichino from the right post.
The RedHawks evened the score at 4-all in the 57th minute, with Sabez scoring on a penalty corner. With 28 seconds left in regulation, Liberty was assessed a yellow card and was forced to end regulation and start overtime a player down. In overtime with a one-player advantage, Sabez scored the game winner, her third goal of the day, on a blast from the right side into the left corner of the cage.
