Liberty Track Returns to Murfreesboro for CUSA Outdoor Championships
5/11/2026 2:43:00 PM | Track and Field
LYNCHBURG, Va. – For the second year in a row, Liberty will head to Murfreesboro, Tenn., for the CUSA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The 30th edition of the meet is slated for Thursday through Saturday at Middle Tennessee's Dean A. Hayes Track & Soccer Stadium.
The decathlon 100-meter dash will get things started Thursday at 10:30 a.m. Eastern, and the meet will wrap up Saturday at 10 p.m. Eastern with the women's 4 x 400 relay.
The Lady Flames have captured three straight outdoor titles, closing out their stay in the ASUN Conference with a team championship in 2023 and opening their CUSA tenure with back-to-back victories in 2024 and 2025. No women's squad has won three straight championships at this meet since UCF captured four outdoor championships in succession between 2010-13.
Meanwhile, the Liberty men's team will attempt to return to the top of the conference standings. The Flames had notched 17 straight outdoor team championships spanning three leagues (Big South, ASUN and CUSA) before Kennesaw State snapped the streak a year ago.
This meet will be contested in Murfreesboro for the fourth time (also 2016, 2021 and 2025). It will provide athletes with a final opportunity to post qualifying marks for the NCAA Division I East First Rounds. That event will take place at the Kentucky Outdoor Track & Field Complex, May 27-30 in Lexington, Ky.
How to Follow the Action
Live video streaming will be available on ESPN+ each evening, beginning at 6:45 p.m. Eastern Thursday, 7:15 p.m. Eastern Friday and 6:45 p.m. Eastern Saturday.
Live results will be provided by Delta Timing throughout the meet.
Weather Report
The weather in Murfreesboro is expected to get warmer as the meet progresses, with a high in the low-70s on Thursday, low-80s on Friday and upper-80s on Saturday. Rain showers and thunderstorms are possible Saturday afternoon.
Men's Meet Preview
As mentioned above, Kennesaw State defeated Liberty at the 2025 CUSA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, halting the Flames' streak of 17 consecutive outdoor team crowns. The Owls won by 5.5 points (216.5 to 211), marking the tightest separation between first and second place at this meet since 2006, when UTEP topped Houston by 3.5 points.
Host Liberty turned the tables on Kennesaw State with a 37-point victory (196-159) at the 2026 CUSA Indoor Track & Field Championships, Feb. 27-28 at the Brant Tolsma Indoor Track at the Liberty Indoor Track Complex. The last five CUSA men's indoor track & field team champions have gone on to capture the outdoor title as well.
Liberty boasts the No. 1 seed in nine of 21 men's events this week, including all four throws. Top-seeded Flames include Michael Long (800), Dale Hall (steeplechase), Markus White (long jump), Gilles Ouedraogo (triple jump), Christian Hicks (shot put and discus), Kellen Kimes (hammer), Ben Shughart (javelin) and Gabriel Willis (decathlon).
Hicks enters his final CUSA meet as the defending shot put and discus champion, a performance which earned him CUSA Field Performer of the Meet honors in 2025. Meanwhile, fellow senior Josh Blalock will aim to defend his 400 hurdles conference title.
The Flames arrive in Murfreesboro with 11 athletes in pretty solid position to qualify for the NCAA Division I East First Rounds meet (Michael Long – 800, Tahj Brown – 110 hurdles, Chase Johnson – pole vault, Reagan Wise – pole vault, Markus White – long jump, Gilles Ouedraogo – triple jump, Christian Hicks – discus, Beau Backes – discus, Trevor Veenstra – discus, Kellen Kimes – hammer and Ben Shughart – javelin). White is currently on the bubble in the triple jump, as are Hicks and Veenstra in the shot put.
Women's Meet Preview
Liberty has claimed back-to-back CUSA women's outdoor track & field team titles and three straight outdoor conference crowns overall. However, the Lady Flames expect a strong challenge from Kennesaw State this week.
The Owls were the most recent team to top Liberty in an outdoor conference championship (2022 ASUN), handing the Lady Flames their only outdoor setback in the last 10 seasons (2015-19 and 2021-25). Additionally, Kennesaw State dealt Liberty a 14-point defeat (140.5-126.5) to take home the team title at the 2026 CUSA Indoor Track & Field Championships in February in Lynchburg.
However, it was UTEP which finished second to the Lady Flames in Murfreesboro a year ago. The Miners and Louisiana Tech will each be making their final CUSA Outdoor Track & Field Championships appearances this week before leaving the conference.
Liberty ranks No. 1 in CUSA in five women's events, including the 1,500 (Allie Zealand), 5K (Zealand), 100 hurdles (Alivia Rivera-Norman), shot put (Bethany Tate) and heptathlon (Patasha Bryan).
A trio of Lady Flames are back to defend their CUSA titles from last year in Murfreesboro, including Zealand (1,500), Tate (shot put) and Meredith Engle (heptathlon).
Liberty enters the week with seven likely NCAA Division I East First Rounds qualifiers: Mahogany Mobley (400), Allie Zealand (800, 1,500 and 5K), Alivia Rivera-Norman (100 hurdles), Katrina Schlenker (steeplechase), Bethany Tate (shot put), Sophie Gonzalez (hammer) and Isabella Frattura (javelin).
Meanwhile, Patasha Bryan currently ranks No. 24 nationally with her program-record heptathlon score of 5,567 from the Bryan Clay Multis. After this weekend, the top 24 declared heptathletes will advance directly to the 2026 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships, scheduled for June 10-13 in Eugene, Ore. The Lady Flames have not sent a heptathlete to the NCAA meet since 2005 (Danielle McNaney).

2026 Leader: Mustapha Bokpin (Middle Tennessee) – 10.11
Liberty Event Titles (Last): 1 (Omari Lewis – 2024)
Liberty Entrants: None
Liberty Outlook: Liberty has won four men's 100 conference titles in the last five years, but the Flames will not enter anyone in the event this week.
Others to Watch: Kennesaw State's Chance Cross has been the runner to beat in the short sprints since the Owls joined the conference. He is the defending CUSA men's 100 champion outdoors and has claimed back-to-back indoor 60 crowns as well. Cross has also excelled at the national level, earning All-America honors in the indoor 60 and outdoor 100 during the last 12 months. The last four CUSA men's 60 champions have gone on to win the 100 two and a half months later, including Cross a year ago. However, Cross is only seeded No. 4 in CUSA this season at 10.23. Middle Tennessee's Mustapha Bokpin, the NAIA national runner-up a year ago for Cumberland, ranks No. 1 in the conference with a wind-legal 10.11.
Men's 200-Meter Dash

Liberty Record: 20.38 by Diamantae Griffin in 2022
2026 Indoor Champion: Mustapha Bokpin (Middle Tennessee) – 20.88
2026 Leader: Mustapha Bokpin (Middle Tennessee) – 20.34
Liberty Event Titles (Last): 0 (Donald McClinton – 2023 ASUN)
Liberty Entrants: Elijah Sherard
Liberty Outlook: Elijah Sherard came in fourth in the 2025 CUSA 200 final with a personal-best 20.91 clocking. The sophomore's top 200 of 2026, a wind-aided 21.11 at the Virginia Challenge, ranks No. 14 in CUSA.
Others to Watch: A year after racing to the NAIA 200 national title, Middle Tennessee's Mustapha Bokpin is looking to complete a sweep of the CUSA indoor and outdoor 200 crowns. His 20.34 effort at the Georgia Tech Invitational ranks No. 1 in CUSA by a wide margin and is tied for No. 8 nationally. Kameron Horton of Western Kentucky is the defending CUSA outdoor champ in this event and suffered a narrow defeat to Bokpin indoors (20.88 to 20.93) with the two runners competing in different heats of the CUSA final.
Men's 400-Meter Dash
Event Schedule: Prelims – Thursday at 8:10 p.m. Eastern; Final – Saturday at 7:50 p.m. Eastern
Defending Champion: Eric Young II (Kennesaw State) – 45.68
Meet Record: 44.53 by Emmanuel Korir (UTEP) in 2017
Liberty Record: 44.86 by Alejandro Perlaza Zapata in 2018
2026 Indoor Champion: Frank Bradley-Reed (Louisiana Tech) – 46.65
2026 Leader: Frank Bradley-Reed (Louisiana Tech) – 46.24
Liberty Event Titles (Last): 0 (Alejandro Perlaza Zapata – 2019 ASUN)
Liberty Entrants: Elijah Sherard
Liberty Outlook: Elijah Sherard was named CUSA Men's Freshman of the Meet a year ago after clocking a Liberty freshman-record 46.02 for third place in the CUSA outdoor 400 final. His lone 400 of the 2026 season thus far was a 47.75 effort at the Florida Relays, good for No. 11 in CUSA this year.
Others to Watch: Kennesaw State's Eric Young II will try to become the first CUSA runner to capture back-to-back outdoor men's 400 titles since Houston's Errol Nolan captured three in a row between 2010 and 2012. However, is only seeded No. 9 at 47.24 in a conference where six runners have broken 47.00 this year. Frank Bradley-Reed of Louisiana Tech has earned back-to-back CUSA indoor titles and is the No. 1 seed outdoors at 46.24. He is favored to earn the Bulldogs' first CUSA outdoor 400 championship.
Men's 800-Meter Run
Event Schedule: Prelims – Friday at 7:30 p.m. Eastern; Final – Saturday at 8:20 p.m. Eastern
Defending Champion: Caleb Anthony (Sam Houston) – 1:48.40
Meet Record: 1:47.48 by Michael Saruni (UTEP) in 2017
Liberty Record: 1:46.77 by Michael Long in 2026
2026 Indoor Champion: Mackdonald Songok (Middle Tennessee) – 1:47.58
2026 Leader: Michael Long (Liberty) – 1:46.77
Liberty Event Titles (Last): 0 (Michael Todd – 2019 ASUN)
Liberty Entrants: Michael Long and Brendan Pitcher
Liberty Outlook: Liberty has not claimed an outdoor conference title in the men's 800 since 2019 (Michael Todd – ASUN), but the Flames will enter a talented duo this week. Brendan Pitcher is a two-time indoor conference champion at 800 meters (2023 ASUN and 2024 CUSA), while first-year Flame Michael Long is coming off a sparkling 1:46.77 performance at The Hill City Twilight two weeks ago. A new Liberty record, it marked the fastest clocking by a CUSA runner since 2018. Long boasts an impressive history in championship races, including the 2024 USATF U20 national title and back-to-back NAIA outdoor 800 national crowns in 2024 and 2025 while competing for Ave Maria.
Others to Watch: Sam Houston's Caleb Anthony, CUSA's No. 2 seed behind Long at 1:49.03, will try to become the first men's 800 runner to successfully defend his CUSA outdoor championship since 2011 and 2012 (Tulsa's Chris O'Hare). Middle Tennessee's Mackdonald Songok has raced to CUSA indoor titles in this event as both a freshman and sophomore but has not raced outdoors this season. In his absence, Wail Bourahli could represent the home team's best chance at winning its first CUSA outdoor 800 crown since 2021 (also contested in Murfreesboro). Bourahli is a three-time CUSA top-three finisher in the 800 (including indoors and outdoors) but is seeking his first victory.
Men's 1,500-Meter Run
Event Schedule: Prelims – Thursday at 7 p.m. Eastern; Final – Saturday at 7:15 p.m. Eastern
Defending Champion: Carmelo Cannizzaro (Middle Tennessee) – 3:51.14
Meet Record: 3:42.24 by Jacob Choge (Middle Tennessee) in 2021
Liberty Record: 3:40.78 by Kyle Harkabus in 2024
2026 Indoor Champion (Mile): Juan Leal (UTEP) – 4:07.50
2026 Leader: Trevor Hudnall (Western Kentucky) – 3:45.98
Liberty Event Titles (Last): 1 (Kyle Harkabus – 2024)
Liberty Entrants: Dale Hall, Ethan Stansbury and Edwin Kiprop
Liberty Outlook: The Flames' Dale Hall is expected to contend in the 1,500. The No. 2 seed at 3:47.26, Hall lost this year's CUSA indoor mile final in a dramatic photo finish with UTEP's Juan Leal before later being disqualified. Also one of the favorites in Friday's steeplechase final, Hall could have a chance to become the first CUSA double champion in the 1,500/steeplechase since 2019 (Middle Tennessee's Kigen Chemadi). Liberty has never had a men's runner pull off victories in both events at the same conference meet. Edwin Kiprop could also be a factor, owning a 3:44.39 personal best and placing fourth in the 2024 CUSA final.
Others to Watch: Middle Tennessee thrilled the home fans with a 1-2-3-4 finish in last year's CUSA men's 1,500 final. However, none of those four athletes has contested a race during the current season, leaving reigning CUSA indoor mile champion Juan Leal of UTEP (fifth place) as the top returnee. Trevor Hudnall has enjoyed a breakthrough sophomore campaign, posting CUSA's two fastest 1,500s of the year (3:45.98 and 3:46.01) to become a favorite for WKU's first-ever CUSA 1,500 crown.
Men's 3,000-Meter Steeplechase
Event Schedule: Final – Friday at 9:30 p.m. Eastern
Defending Champion: Allan Kiplagat (Middle Tennessee) – 8:45.64
Meet Record: 8:39.44 by Anthony Rotich (UTEP) in 2013
Liberty Record: 8:32.95 by Felix Kandie in 2021
2026 Leader: Dale Hall (Liberty) – 9:00.61
Liberty Event Titles (Last): 0 (Felix Kandie – 2022 ASUN)
Liberty Entrants: Dale Hall, Sean Aiken, Eli Julian and Robbie Annett
Liberty Outlook: Middle Tennessee has swept CUSA's top three places in the men's steeplechase final each of the past two years, but Liberty's Dale Hall (9:00.61) and Sean Aiken (9:09.03) have posted the conference's two fastest times of 2026 to date. Both own a previous top-five CUSA finish in this event, as Hall took fourth a year ago and Aiken came in fifth in 2024. The duo will aim for the Flames' first steeplechase conference title since 2022, when program record holder Felix Kandie was victorious in the ASUN. Only five CUSA runners have contested the steeplechase this season, and four of them are Flames (also freshmen Eli Julian and Robbie Annett), giving Liberty strong point potential Friday night.
Others to Watch: Middle Tennessee's Juan Lucas De La Fuente is the only non-Liberty runner who has raced a steeplechase this year, earning the No. 3 seed with his personal-best 9:16.86 effort at the Bryan Clay Invitational. He finished sixth in this event last season, one spot ahead of Liberty's Aiken.
Men's 5,000-Meter Run
Event Schedule: Final – Saturday at 9:05 p.m. Eastern
Defending Champion: Brian Limo (Kennesaw State) – 14:14.03
Meet Record: 13:51.64 by Nick Scudder (Charlotte) in 2023

2026 Indoor Champion: Moses Lekokei (Middle Tennessee) – 14:16.67
2026 Leader: Brian Limo (Kennesaw State) – 14:02.05
Liberty Event Titles (Last): 0 (Ryan Drew – 2021 ASUN)
Liberty Entrants: Edwin Kiprop, Jack Cottrell, Tristian Merchant, Andrew Schultz, Nicholas Kiprotich, Sean Aiken and Eli Julian
Liberty Outlook: No CUSA runners have broken 14:00 in the 5K this season, but two of Liberty's entries (Edwin Kiprop – 13:47.63 in 2024 and Tristian Merchant – 13:57.34 in 2023) have done so during their respective careers. Kiprop, the No. 3 seed this year at 14:12.30, raced to the 2024 CUSA indoor 5K title as a freshman and took third outdoors a year ago. Merchant, Nicholas Kiprotich and Jack Cottrell have all posted conference 5K top-three finishes during their careers, with Cottrell coming in third indoors in February.
Others to Watch: Top seed Brian Limo of Kennesaw State (14:02.05) led a 1-2 finish by the Owls a year ago in Murfreesboro, helping seal Kennesaw State's team title. Limo will aim to become the first men's 5K runner to claim back-to-back CUSA outdoor crowns since UTEP's Anthony Rotich won three in succession between 2013 and 2015. Middle Tennessee's Moses Lekokei swept the CUSA men's 3K and 5K crowns in February.
Men's 10,000-Meter Run
Event Schedule: Final – Thursday at 9:20 p.m. Eastern
Defending Champion: Collins Kipkemboi (Kennesaw State) – 30:35.56
Meet Record: 28:58.29 by Jacob Choge (Middle Tennessee) in 2021
Liberty Record: 27:08.39 by Sam Chelanga in 2010
2026 Leader: Moses Lekokei (Middle Tennessee) – 28:55.10
Liberty Event Titles (Last): 1 (Nicholas Kiprotich – 2024)
Liberty Entrants: Nicholas Kiprotich, Andrew Schultz, Jack Cottrell and Tristian Merchant
Liberty Outlook: Two of Liberty's 10K entries are past conference champions in this event, including Tristian Merchant (2023 ASUN) and Nicholas Kiprotich (2024 CUSA), while three own PRs under 30:00 (Merchant – 29:26.15, Kiprotich – 29:37.60 and Jack Cottrell – 29:54.55). Kiprotich came in third last season and is seeded a team-best No. 4 in 2026 at 30:14.33.
Others to Watch: Collins KipKemboi and Brian Limo came in 1-2 for Kennesaw State in the 2025 CUSA 10K final. However, 2026 CUSA indoor 3K and 5K champion Moses Lekokei of Middle Tennessee is the top seed at 28:55.10. Only six CUSA men's runners have completed a 10K in 2026 heading into Thursday's final.
Men's 110-Meter Hurdles
Event Schedule: Prelims – Thursday at 7:30 p.m. Eastern; Final – Saturday at 7:35 p.m. Eastern
Defending Champion: Mohamed Diaby (Kennesaw State) – 13.82
Meet Record: 13.50 by Stephen Eloji (Middle Tennessee) in 2023
Liberty Record: 13.66 by Prosper Ekporere in 2023
2026 Indoor Champion (60 Hurdles): Tahj Brown (Liberty) – 7.70
2026 Leader: Oscar Smith (Louisiana Tech) – 13.50
Liberty Event Titles (Last): 0 (Felix Lawrence – 2023 ASUN)
Liberty Entrants: Tahj Brown
Liberty Outlook: Bahamian freshman Tahj Brown has made an immediate impact after enrolling in January. He blazed to the CUSA 60 hurdles title in a personal-best 7.70 indoors and has lowered the Liberty freshman record for the 110 hurdles to 13.78 outdoors. Brown may have to threaten the program record (Prosper Ekporere's 13.66 from 2023) if he hopes to earn Liberty's first CUSA men's 110 hurdles crown Saturday evening. Liberty's last freshman to claim a conference 110 hurdles championship was All-American Jovaine Atkinson in 2017. No CUSA freshman has won this event since 2013 (Houston's Isaac Williams).
Others to Watch: Oscar Smith, the top seed at 13.50, will shoot for Louisiana Tech's first CUSA title in this event. Kennesaw State went 1-2 a year ago, led by champion Mohamed Diaby. He (13.73) and teammate Cameron Guadiano (13.63) figure to be two of the top contenders again this week.
Men's 400-Meter Hurdles
Event Schedule: Prelims – Friday at 8:05 p.m. Eastern; Final – Saturday at 8:35 p.m. Eastern
Defending Champion: Josh Blalock (Liberty) – 51.91
Meet Record: 49.82 by Shakeem Smith (UTEP) in 2021
Liberty Record: 50.27 by Rayan Holmes in 2023
2026 Leader: Josh Jones (Kennesaw State) – 51.39
Liberty Event Titles (Last): 1 (Josh Blalock – 2025)
Liberty Entrants: Josh Blalock and Wallace Tupper II
Liberty Outlook: Josh Blalock raced to Liberty's fourth conference 400 hurdles title in five years last season but will be challenged to defend his crown this week. A pair of Kennesaw State Owls have clocked times of 51.79 or faster this year, while Blalock's personal best sits at 51.75. Felix Lawrence was the most recent Flame to win consecutive 400 hurdles crowns (2021 and 2022 ASUN).
Others to Watch: This is one of Kennesaw State's best events, with Blalock the only non-Owl ranked inside CUSA's top five this season. Freshman Marion Clark came in third in the indoor 400 in February and could become the second rookie to win this event in the last five years. Middle Tennessee's Stephen Eloji began his run of three consecutive CUSA 400 hurdles crowns as a freshman in 2022.
Men's 4 x 100 Relay
Event Schedule: Final – Saturday at 7 p.m. Eastern
Defending Champion: Liberty – 39.27
Meet Record: 38.89 by Southern Miss in 2018
Liberty Record: 39.08 in 2022
2026 Leader: Sam Houston – 39.12
Liberty Event Titles (Last): 1 (2025)
Liberty Outlook: Liberty provided one of the 2025 CUSA meet's most memorable moments when Omari Lewis overcame a large deficit on the anchor leg to win the 4 x 100 relay title for the Flames. Liberty is unlikely to defend its crown on Saturday though, as its lineup could feature multiple decathletes.
Others to Watch: Sam Houston, which finished a close second to the Flames a year ago, returns three members of the squad that advanced to Eugene in 2025. As a result, Sam Houston owns the top seed at 39.12 entering Saturday's CUSA final and is favored to capture its first conference title in the 4 x 100 since 2019 (Southland). Louisiana Tech (39.64) and Middle Tennessee (39.70) have also broken 40 seconds this year. The host Blue Raiders are in search of their first conference victory in this event since 2007 (Sun Belt).
Men's 4 x 400 Relay
Event Schedule: Final – Saturday at 9:50 p.m. Eastern
Defending Champion: Louisiana Tech – 3:05.77 (Second in a row)
Meet Record: 3:04.50 by Western Kentucky in 2019
Liberty Record: 3:07.28 in 1997
2026 Indoor Champion: Kennesaw State – 3:09.35
2026 Leader: Kennesaw State – 3:05.19
Liberty Event Titles (Last): 0 (2023 ASUN)
Liberty Outlook: Liberty will be challenged to win its first CUSA 4 x 400 crown on Saturday. The Flames' top time of the season to date (3:23.72) came at the Virginia Opener in March, a month after Liberty came in seventh in the CUSA indoor 4 x 400. Liberty has not run faster than 3:08 since 1997, something both Kennesaw State and Louisiana Tech have already achieved this season.
Others to Watch: Louisiana Tech is the two-time defending CUSA champion in the outdoor men's 4 x 400 relay and could become the first team to win three in a row since WKU (2017-19). However, the Bulldogs are likely to be challenged by Kennesaw State, which raced to the CUSA indoor title and owns the top outdoor seed at 3:05.19.
Men's Long Jump
Event Schedule: Final – Thursday at 3 p.m. Eastern
Defending Champion: Kaelen Michell (Kennesaw State) – 25-11 (7.90m)
Meet Record: 26-2.75 (7.99m) by Desmond Mobley (Western Kentucky) in 2018
Liberty Record: 25-10.5 (7.88m) by Markus White in 2026
2026 Indoor Champion: Markus White (Liberty) – 25-4 (7.72m)
2026 Leader: Markus White (Liberty) – 25-10.5 (7.88m)
Liberty Event Titles (Last): 0 (Quinten Clay – 2022 ASUN)
Liberty Entrants: Markus White and Gilles Ouedraogo
Liberty Outlook: Markus White broke a long-standing program record with his 25-8 leap at last year's CUSA outdoor championship, placing second in the competition. He has pushed the mark to 25-10.25 this year, a mark which is tied for No. 14 nationally. White arrives in Murfreesboro on a four-meet long jump winning streak, beginning with his CUSA indoor crown in February. The last four CUSA indoor men's long jump champions have gone on to prevail outdoors too. If White can do so on Thursday, he will become the Flames' first outdoor men's long jump titlist since 2022 (Quinten Clay – ASUN). Meanwhile, triple jump specialist Gilles Ouedraogo has taken one long jump attempt as a Flame, a 23-5.25 effort which placed seventh in the CUSA indoor final in February.
Others to Watch: Louisiana Tech's Cobe Johnson was the runner-up to White indoors and is seeded second outdoors at 24-9.25. He will try to become the second Bulldog to win this event in the last three years.
Men's Triple Jump
Event Schedule: Final – Saturday at 6 p.m. Eastern
Defending Champion: Joshua Smith (Liberty) – 50-11
Meet Record: 52-10 (16.10m) by Raphel Martin (Charlotte) in 2000
Liberty Record: 52-4.5 (15.96m) by Gilles Ouedraogo in 2026
2026 Indoor Champion: Gilles Ouedraogo (Liberty) – 53-1 (16.18m)
2026 Leader: Gilles Ouedraogo (Liberty) – 52-4.5 (15.96m)
Liberty Event Titles (Last): 1 (Joshua Smith – 2025)
Liberty Entrants: Gilles Ouedraogo and Markus White
Liberty Outlook: Liberty's Joshua Smith pulled out a dramatic victory in the 2025 CUSA outdoor triple jump final on his sixth and final attempt, keeping the Flames' team title chances alive late in the meet. He is redshirting this season, but the Flames still boast the title favorite in Gilles Ouedraogo. The Burkina Faso native burst onto the scene with a CUSA title and All-America finish (12th-place at NCAA meet) indoors. Ouedraogo has only taken one triple jump attempt thus far in the outdoor campaign, but it measured 52-4.5, good for a program record and Penn Relays title. Markus White is also a podium contender after rounding out a 1-2-3 Liberty sweep indoors and ranking No. 4 in CUSA outdoors at 49-9.25.
Others to Watch: A pair of Kennesaw State Owls have gone over 50 feet this season, including freshman Cameron Dean (50-11.5) and sophomore Chinedum Ike (50-7.5). Middle Tennessee's Joel Iheakolam has been a top-five finisher in each of the last three CUSA triple jump finals, including the indoor and outdoor events.
Men's High Jump
Event Schedule: Final – Friday at 6:30 p.m. Eastern
Defending Champion: Jakub Belik (UTEP) – 7-0.25 (2.14m) (Third in a row)
Meet Record: 7-6.5 (2.30m) by Mickael Hanany (UTEP) in 2006 and 2008
Liberty Record: 7-1 (2.16m) by Kennedy Sauder in 2022, Kyle Wheeler in 2012 and Matt Parker in 2009
2026 Indoor Champion: Kenyatta Bennett (Kennesaw State) – 6-11.5 (2.12m)
2026 Leader: Gage Voyles (Kennesaw State) – 7-3 (2.21m)
Liberty Event Titles (Last): 0 (Kennedy Sauder – 2022 ASUN)
Liberty Entrants: Gabriel Willis, Hunter Bleam and Jake Nicholson
Liberty Outlook: All three of Liberty's entrants (Gabriel Willis, Hunter Bleam and Jake Nicholson) will be high jumping several hours after the conclusion of the decathlon. Willis, whose high jump personal best of 6-11.75 dates back to his freshman year in 2021, is a two-time indoor high jump conference runner-up (2021 ASUN, 2025 CUSA). He placed fourth in the high jump at this meet a year ago, on the heels of his decathlon.
Others to Watch: UTEP's Jakub Belik has graduated after becoming the first men's high jumper in conference history ever to win three years in a row. In his absence, Kennesaw State's Kenyatta Bennett and Gage Voyles went 1-2 during this year's CUSA indoor final. Voyles (7-3) and Bennett (7-1.5) are the only two conference high jumpers to clear 7 feet this outdoor season. Voyles is tied for fourth nationally, including tops among freshmen, with his 7-3 clearance at the Georgia Tech Invitational.
Men's Pole Vault
Event Schedule: Final – Thursday at 6 p.m. Eastern
Defending Champion: Simon Seid (Kennesaw State) – 17-0 (5.18m)
Meet Record: 17-9.75 (5.43m) by Alexander Slinkman (Rice) in 2023
Liberty Record: 17-8.5 (5.40m) by Kolby Shepherd in 2012
2026 Indoor Champion: Sam Crenshaw (Western Kentucky) – 16-10.75 (5.15m)
2026 Leader: Agustin Carril (FIU) and Simon Seid (Kennesaw State) – 17-2.75 (5.25m)
Liberty Event Titles (Last): 0 (Anders Janes – 2019 ASUN)
Liberty Entrants: Chase Johnson, Reagan Wise and Todd Benhase
Liberty Outlook: All three of the Flames' entries rank among the top 10 pole vaulters in program history, including Chase Johnson (tied for No. 5, 17-1.5), Reagan Wise (tied for No. 5, 17-1.5) and Todd Benhase (No. 10, 16-8). Johnson broke Anders' Janes Liberty freshman record earlier this season. Janes, who vaulted to victory in the 2019 ASUN final as a freshman, is the most recent Flame to win an outdoor pole vault title. LA Tech's Cole Courtois (2018) was the CUSA's last freshman champion in this event. Johnson and Benhase finished 2-3 indoors in February, while Wise was the 2025 CAA outdoor pole vault victor while competing for Campbell.
Others to Watch: Kennesaw State's Simon Seid has earned outdoor conference pole vault titles each of the last three years (2023 and 2024 – ASUN and 2025 - CUSA). However, he only tied for ninth indoors in February. At 17-2.75, Seid shares the top seed with FIU freshman Agustin Carril. Six CUSA athletes have cleared between 17-1 and 17-2.75 this season, a list which also includes Flames Johnson and Wise, reigning indoor champion Sam Crenshaw of WKU and Sam Houston freshman Parker Brown.
Men's Shot Put
Event Schedule: Final – Friday at 4 p.m. Eastern
Defending Champion: Christian Hicks (Liberty) – 56-4 (17.17m)
Meet Record: 65-9.75 (20.06m) by Richard Garrett (UTSA) in 2014
Liberty Record: 64-9.75 (19.75m) by Kyle Mitchell in 2021
2026 Indoor Champion: Christian Hicks (Liberty) – 59-3 (18.06m)
2026 Leader: Christian Hicks (Liberty) – 57-11 (17.65m)
Liberty Event Titles (Last): 2 (Christian Hicks – 2025)
Liberty Entrants: Christian Hicks, Trevor Veenstra and Jayron Lewis
Liberty Outlook: Liberty's Christian Hicks (57-11) and Trevor Veenstra (57-8.5) own CUSA's top two shot put marks this season by more than a foot, but both may need to improve in Murfreesboro to lock down trips to the NCAA Division I East First Rounds meet. The reigning CUSA indoor and outdoor champion in this event, Hicks will try to become the first Flame to capture consecutive outdoor shot put titles since All-American Kyle Mitchell (ASUN – 2019 and 2021). The last athlete to successfully defend his men's shot put crown at this meet was Middle Tennessee's Isaac Odugbesan (2018 and 2019), currently a WWE wrestler named Oba Femi. Veenstra will aim for his first outdoor all-conference medal after recording back-to-back indoor third-place shot put finishes in 2025 and 2026.
Others to Watch: Kennesaw State aims to break up Liberty's potential 1-2 finish. Evan Martinez was the 2025 CUSA indoor shot put champion as a freshman, while Rickey Robbins took second to Hicks indoors in February.
Men's Discus
Event Schedule: Final – Saturday at 4 p.m. Eastern
Defending Champion: Christian Hicks (Liberty) – 185-2 (56.44m)
Meet Record: 195-5 (59.56m) by Sam Welsh (Rice) in 2023
Liberty Record: 204-3 (62.26m) by Clendon Henderson in 2008
2026 Leader: Christian Hicks (Liberty) – 194-7 (59.31m)
Liberty Event Titles (Last): 1 (Christian Hicks – 2025)
Liberty Entrants: Christian Hicks, Beau Backes, Trevor Veenstra, Jayron Lewis and Hunter Bleam
Liberty Outlook: The next-to-last men's field event of the meet is one of Liberty's strongest disciplines. Christian Hicks (194-7), Beau Backes (181-2) and Trevor Veenstra (178-3) rank 1-2-3 on the CUSA leaderboard, and all three are bound for the NCAA Division I East First Rounds meet later this month. Hicks will look to become the first Flame to successfully defend his men's discus conference title since Fred Fulton (Big South – 2015 and 2016). No team has ever finished 1-2-3 in the men's discus in meet history, and no school has ever swept all four men's throwing event titles at a single CUSA meet. Liberty last did so at the 2021 ASUN Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Others to Watch: Outside of the Liberty trio, FIU's Tim Beauchamp (176-10), Kennesaw State's Rickey Robbins (174-8) and Kennesaw State's Joao Dalandrea (174-1) are the only CUSA throwers to go over 53 meters so far in 2026. Neither the Panthers nor the Owls has won a CUSA title in the men's discus.
Men's Javelin
Event Schedule: Final – Saturday at Noon Eastern
Defending Champion: Blake Orr (FIU) – 205-1 (62.50m)
Meet Record: 254-4 (77.53m) by John Ampomah (Middle Tennessee) in 2016
Liberty Record: 253-11 (77.41m) by Ben Shughart in 2026
2026 Leader: Ben Shughart (Liberty) – 253-11 (77.41m)
Liberty Event Titles (Last): 1 (Ben Shughart – 2024)
Liberty Entrants: Ben Shughart, Nathan Haas, Jake Nicholson and Gabriel Willis
Liberty Outlook: Ben Shughart, who won the CUSA title and advanced to the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships in 2024, made a triumphant return from injury at the Virginia Opener on March 21. His 253-11 effort shattered the Liberty record, was the longest heave by a CUSA athlete since 2016 and sits No. 7 nationally. Shughart will attempt to become the first Flame to win multiple conference javelin crowns since Denzel Pratt captured a trio (2017 Big South, 2018 Big South and 2019 ASUN). Decathletes Jake Nicholson and Gabriel Willis will each be contesting their 12th event on Saturday. Willis reached a personal-best 187-1 for seventh place in a similar situation at last year's CUSA meet.
Others to Watch: A year after earning FIU's first-ever CUSA men's javelin title, Blake Orr is seeded No. 2 at 229-8. Third seed Aidan Boyd of Kennesaw State was the runner-up to Orr in 2025 and owns the Owls' program record of 221-6.
Men's Hammer
Event Schedule: Final – Thursday at 3 p.m. Eastern
Defending Champion: Donald Lamp (Louisiana Tech) – 203-6
Meet Record: 225-11 (68.86m) by Steffen Nerdal (Memphis) in 2010
Liberty Record: 222-4 (67.76m) by Jon Hart in 2008
2026 Indoor Champion (Weight): Kellen Kimes (Liberty) – 69-7 (21.21m)
2026 Leader: Kellen Kimes (Liberty) – 221-8 (67.56m)
Liberty Event Titles (Last): 1 (John Hicks – 2024)
Liberty Entrants: Kellen Kimes, Trevor Veenstra, Beau Backes and Jayron Lewis
Liberty Outlook: After placing third as a freshman and second as a sophomore, Kellen Kimes looks to collect his first CUSA men's hammer gold medal on Thursday afternoon. He reached a personal-best 221-8 in his only competition in a Liberty uniform this season, the Virginia Challenge. That tops the CUSA performance list by a dozen feet and is knocking on the door of Jon Hart's program record of 222-4 which has stood since 2008. Kimes ranks No. 18 nationally as he hopes to return to Eugene for the second year in a row next month. Trevor Veenstra, who did not contest the hammer at all during his freshman year, now ranks No. 6 all-time for the Flames and No. 5 in CUSA this year at 196-6.
Others to Watch: Jase Hunter, last season's third-place finisher, is tops among Kennesaw State's pair of 60-meter throwers with a season best of 209-6. He has gone over 63 meters in four of five competitions this season.
Men's Decathlon
Event Schedule: Day One – Begins Thursday at 10:30 a.m. Eastern; Day Two – Begins Friday at 10 a.m. Eastern
Defending Champion: Daniel Van Duren (Liberty) – 6,721
Meet Record: 8,011 by Jack Turner (UTSA) in 2023
Liberty Record: 7,800 by Brandon Hoskins in 2008
2026 Indoor Champion (Heptathlon): Gabriel Willis (Liberty) – 5,273
2026 Leader: Gabriel Willis (Liberty) – 7,341
Liberty Event Titles (Last): 2 (Daniel Van Duren – 2025)
Liberty Entrants: Gabriel Willis, Jake Nicholson, Samuel O'Regan and Hunter Bleam
Liberty Outlook: Liberty possesses considerable point potential in the decathlon. The Flames swept the event's top four positions in 2025, and returning are runner-up Gabriel Willis, third-place Hunter Bleam and fourth-place Samuel O'Regan. Defending champion Daniel Van Duren graduated but was replaced by redshirt freshman Jake Nicholson, who became Liberty's first freshman to go over 7,000 points (7,082, to be exact) since 2005. Willis, the two-time defending CUSA heptathlon champion, will attempt to claim his first career decathlon title. He scored 7,341 points at the Bryan Clay Multis to rank No. 28 nationally this season and No. 10 in program history. But Willis will need to improve that score if he hopes to conclude his collegiate career at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships like his wife (Makenzy [Mizera] Willis) did in 2024. Liberty has won four consecutive conference decathlon titles, starting with the 2022 ASUN meet.
Others to Watch: No non-Liberty athletes have completed a decathlon in 2026, but UTEP's Oleksandr Blonskyi came in third in the CUSA heptathlon indoors to break up a potential Liberty sweep of the podium. Blonskyi, the 2024 CUSA decathlon runner-up at his home facility, would become the Miners' first CUSA champion in this event if successful.
Women's 100-Meter Dash
Event Schedule: Prelims – Thursday at 9 p.m. Eastern; Final – Saturday at 8:10 p.m. Eastern
Defending Champion: Rejoice Sule (UTEP) – 11.26
Meet Record: 11.06 by Niesha Burgher (UTEP) in 2024
Liberty Record: 11.23 by Isis Brooks in 2023
2026 Indoor Champion (60 Meters): Kenadie Singleton (Kennesaw State) – 7.35
2026 Leader: Olivia Rogers (Missouri State) – 11.40
Liberty Event Titles (Last): 0 (Isis Brooks – 2023 ASUN)
Liberty Entrants: Iyana Sherard
Liberty Outlook: Liberty's lone entrant, Iyana Sherard climbed to No. 5 on the Lady Flames' all-time list with her winning time of 11.62 at last week's Liberty Twilight Qualifier. That ranks the daughter of Liberty Women's Basketball Head Coach Alexis Sherard No. 9 in CUSA this season.
Others to Watch: This event is wide open, with only sixth-place finisher Laila Rudolph of Middle Tennessee returning from the 2025 CUSA 100 final. Kennesaw State's Kenadie Singleton raced to the CUSA indoor 60 crown but is only tied for No. 10 in CUSA in the 100 this year at 11.65. New Mexico State's Marlee Cavitt (second) and Missouri State's Olivia Rogers (third), who joined Singleton on the CUSA 60 dash podium, are two of three conference runners with sub-11.50 clockings to their credit in 2026. The list also includes UTEP freshman Cydni Martin, who will bid to become the Miners' fourth consecutive conference champ in this event.
Women's 200-Meter Dash
Event Schedule: Prelims – Friday at 9 p.m. Eastern; Final – Saturday at 8:55 p.m. Eastern
Defending Champion: Rejoice Sule (UTEP) – 22.97
Meet Record: 22.44 by Niesha Burgher (UTEP) in 2024
Liberty Record: 23.09 by Isis Brooks in 2023
2026 Indoor Champion: Marlee Cavitt (New Mexico State) – 23.65
2026 Leader: Jaitlyn Ware (Louisiana Tech) – 23.20
Liberty Event Titles (Last): 0 (Isia Brooks – 2023 ASUN)
Liberty Entrants: Iyana Sherard and Mahogany Mobley
Liberty Outlook: Iyana Sherard clocked 23.53 into a headwind at the Charlotte Invitational, ranking No. 4 in both program history and in CUSA this season. She just missed making the final in this event a year ago, taking ninth in prelims. Best known for her abilities in the 400, Mahogany Mobley stepped up for a third-place showing in the CUSA indoor 200 final in February.
Others to Watch: Top seed Jaitlyn Ware of LA Tech (23.20) has excelled in her first year after transferring from Mississippi State and will chase her team's first CUSA title in this event. UTEP freshman Cydni Martin (23.41) could become the third different Miner to win in the last three years. Meanwhile, two-sport athlete (also women's soccer) Marlee Cavitt of New Mexico State (23.45) will attempt to replicate her CUSA indoor title in this event from February in Lynchburg.
Women's 400-Meter Dash
Event Schedule: Prelims – Thursday at 8:25 p.m. Eastern; Final – Saturday at 7:55 p.m. Eastern
Defending Champion: Osaretin Usenbor (Louisiana Tech) – 52.67 (Second in a row)
Meet Record: 51.74 by Ebonie Floyd (Houston) in 2007
Liberty Record: 52.76 by Mahogany Mobley in 2026
2026 Indoor Champion: Jamara Patterson (Louisiana Tech) – 52.66
2026 Leader: Jamara Patterson (Louisiana Tech) – 51.56
Liberty Event Titles (Last): 0 (Ty'Asia Dansbury – 2019 ASUN)
Liberty Entrants: Mahogany Mobley and Maddy Merritt
Liberty Outlook: The Lady Flames have not recorded a top-three finish in an outdoor conference women's 400 final since 2019 (Ty'Asia Dansbury – ASUN title), but Mahogany Mobley could end that drought. She placed fourth in Murfreesboro a year ago and has stepped up even more in 2026, clocking 52.76 at the Florida Relays to break Dansbury's record from that 2019 ASUN victory. Maddy Merritt is only tied for No. 23 in CUSA at 55.91, but she displayed her potential in this event with a 53.39 split during the Lady Flames' program-record 3:37.45 4 x 400 relay at the CUSA Indoor Track & Field Championships.
Others to Watch: Louisiana Tech's Jamara Patterson is the top seed at 51.56 and raced to this year's CUSA indoor title. However, it is her teammate (No. 5 seed Osaretin Usenbor – 53.11 season best) who is the two-time defending outdoor champion in this event. Middle Tennessee's Agu Agu was the indoor runner-up to Patterson and is seeded No. 2 at 52.44. She hopes to give the Blue Raiders their first CUSA outdoor 400 crown since 2017.
Women's 800-Meter Run
Event Schedule: Prelims – Friday at 7:45 p.m. Eastern; Final – Saturday at 8:25 p.m. Eastern
Defending Champion: Emma Sullivan (Kennesaw State) – 2:02.77
Meet Record: 2:02.77 by Emma Sullivan (Kennesaw State) in 2025
Liberty Record: 2:03.99 by Kate Goodyear in 2025
2026 Indoor Champion: Emma Sullivan (Kennesaw State) – 2:02.89
2026 Leader: Emma Sullivan (Kennesaw State) – 2:01.07
Liberty Event Titles (Last): 1 (Kate Goodyear – 2024)
Liberty Entrants: Allie Zealand, Rachel Hill and Eden Alexander
Liberty Outlook: The 800 is a strong event in CUSA, as eight women have broken 2:08 this season. Liberty will enter a talented trio led by Allie Zealand. Her personal-best 2:04.17 clocking at the Bryan Clay Invitational ranks No. 3 in CUSA and just missed the program record of 2:03.99 set by 2024 CUSA champion Kate Locker Goodyear. Zealand's best career conference finish at 800 meters is fifth at the 2025 CUSA indoor meet. Alexander came in fourth in the CUSA indoor 800 final in February with a Liberty freshman-record time of 2:07.70. She could challenge the Lady Flames' outdoor freshman record this week, which is Zealand's 2:07.31 effort from a year ago. Meanwhile, Hill is coming off a huge breakthrough at The Hill City Twilight earlier this month, slicing her 800 best from 2:09.74 to 2:06.98.
Others to Watch: Kennesaw State's Emma Sullivan has raced to all three possible 800 titles since joining the conference, including the 2025 indoor, 2025 outdoor and 2026 indoor crowns. She set the outdoor meet record of 2:02.77 a year ago, before going on to reach the NCAA national meet. This season, Sullivan has lowered her personal best to 2:01.07, ranking 12th nationally. Two-time all-conference 800 runner Privillege Chikara of Middle Tennessee could challenge Sullivan. Like Sullivan, she notched a personal best (2:03.44) at the Florida Relays. The last four CUSA indoor 800 champions have proceeded to collect the outdoor title as well, including Sullivan in 2025.
Women's 1,500-Meter Run
Event Schedule: Prelims – Thursday at 7:15 p.m. Eastern; Final – Saturday at 7:25 p.m. Eastern
Defending Champion: Allie Zealand (Liberty) – 4:19.54
Meet Record: 4:14.42 by Grace Forbes (Rice) in 2021
Liberty Record: 4:09.76 by Allie Zealand in 2025
2026 Indoor Champion (Mile): Allie Zealand (Liberty) – 4:37.83
2026 Leader: Allie Zealand (Liberty) – 4:10.57
Liberty Event Titles (Last): 1 (Allie Zealand – 2025)
Liberty Entrants: Allie Zealand and Jessica Palisca
Liberty Outlook: All-American and defending champion Allie Zealand has only run the 1,500 once this season, but it was a CUSA-leading 4:10.57 effort at the Bryan Clay Invitational. So far in her career, the sophomore has claimed back-to-back CUSA mile titles indoors and will look to do the same in the 1,500 in Murfreesboro. Last season, Zealand's CUSA 1,500 triumph was part of a memorable postseason which later included breaking her mother's program record with a 4:09.76 that sent her to Eugene. Zealand is favored to become CUSA's first back-to-back 1,500 champion since UTEP's Lilian Koech in 2018 and 2019. The last Lady Flame to capture a conference 1,500 crown in consecutive years was Jennifer Klugh in 2011 and 2012 (Big South). Jessica Palisca will contest the 1,500 at a conference meet for the first time after focusing on the 800 the last three years. The senior took third in the CUSA indoor mile final on her home track in February.
Others to Watch: Other than Zealand, the only CUSA runners to break 4:20 this season are Kennesaw State 800 ace Emma Sullivan (4:13.65) and Middle Tennessee's Privillege Chikara (4:17.52). Chikara placed second to Zealand in this year's CUSA indoor mile final but was eight seconds back. Sullivan has never contested the 1,500 or mile at a conference meet.
Women's 3,000-Meter Steeplechase
Event Schedule: Final – Friday at 10 p.m. Eastern
Defending Champion: Marie Hostetler (Liberty) – 10:14.75
Meet Record: 10:00.77 by Brianna Dahm (Marquette) in 2002
Liberty Record: 9:49.54 by Calli Doan in 2024
2026 Leader: Madison Seiler (Kennesaw State) – 9:56.87
Liberty Event Titles (Last): 2 (Marie Hostetler – 2025)
Liberty Entrants: Katrina Schlenker, Raini Mayo and Sophia Park
Liberty Outlook: The women's steeplechase has played a key role in Liberty's last two CUSA team titles. Lady Flames went 1-2 in the event both years, totaling 25 points in 2024 and 26 points a year ago. Katrina Schlenker, who finished second in both of those memorable races, looks to step to the top of the podium as a senior. She has lowered her steeplechase personal best twice already this season, with her 10:06.44 at the Bryan Clay Invitational ranking second to All-American Calli Doan in program history. Most recently, Schlenker has displayed her overall fitness with personal bests in the 1,500 (4:22.76) and 5K (16:27.14) earlier this month. After placing seventh in 2025 as a freshman, Raini Mayo has slashed her steeplechase best to 10:29.22. That ranks No. 4 in CUSA this year and No. 4 in program history. Sophia Park, who came in fifth in the 2024 CUSA steeplechase as a freshman, sits No. 6 in both CUSA this year and in Liberty history with her 10:36.80 from the Penn Relays.
Others to Watch: Kennesaw State's Madison Seiler enters as the top seed for the second straight season, thanks to her program-record 9:56.87 performance at the Penn Relays (No. 14 nationally). She placed third behind Liberty's duo of Marie Hostetler and Schlenker a year ago. Ella Cronhardt paces three Missouri State Bears in CUSA's top eight as the No. 3 seed (10:20.98). She was third in the 2025 MVC steeplechase final.
Women's 5,000-Meter Run
Event Schedule: Final – Saturday at 9:25 p.m. Eastern
Defending Champion: Faith Nyathi (Middle Tennessee) – 16:52.38
Meet Record: 16:05.29 by Elinor Kirk (UAB) in 2014
Liberty Record: 15:26.38 by Allie Zealand in 2026
2026 Indoor Champion: Faith Nyathi (Middle Tennessee) – 16:23.03
2026 Leader: Allie Zealand (Liberty) – 15:26.38
Liberty Event Titles (Last): 1 (Calli Doan – 2024)
Liberty Entrants: Ava Gordon, Katrina Schlenker, Ryann Aycock, Jessica Palisca, Sophia Park, Katie Sigerud, Molly Lashley, Isabela Ross, Rachel Hill and Raini Mayo
Liberty Outlook: Even though program record holder and CUSA leader Allie Zealand will forego the 5K this week to focus on other events, Liberty could still enter quite a squad if it needs points late Saturday evening. Ava Gordon (16:18.99), Katrina Schlenker (16:27.14) and Ryann Aycock (16:47.89) have all notched significant PRs in the 5K this season, and Gordon and Aycock will each be heading into the race fresh. Five of the Lady Flames' potential entries earned All-CUSA honors for the conference champion cross country team this past fall, including Jessica Palisca (fourth place), Schlenker (fifth), Rachel Hill (14th), Aycock (16th) and Katie Sigerud (17th).
Others to Watch: Middle Tennessee's Faith Nyathi is the reigning CUSA indoor and outdoor women's 5K champion. Also the 2023 CUSA outdoor 5K victor, Nyathi will try to become the first CUSA woman ever to collect three outdoor 5K titles. However, Nyathi was edged by indoor runner-up Kinley Kunkel of WKU at the Music City Challenge (16:04.61 to 16:04.75) in a race which produced the conference's fastest non-Allie Zealand times of 2026. The Hilltoppers have never won a women's 5K title at this meet.
Women's 10,000-Meter Run
Event Schedule: Final – Thursday at 10 p.m. Eastern
Defending Champion: Adelyn Fairley (Liberty) – 35:55.45
Meet Record: 33:50.06 by Grace Forbes (Rice) in 2021
Liberty Record: 33:25.95 by Adelyn Fairley in 2025
2026 Leader: Kinley Kunkel (Western Kentucky) – 33:37.38
Liberty Event Titles (Last): 1 (Adelyn Fairley – 2025)
Liberty Entrants: Isabela Ross, Molly Lashley and Katie Sigerud
Liberty Outlook: Liberty's Isabela Ross (sixth place) and Molly Lashley (ninth) are the second and third fastest returnees from the 2025 CUSA 10K final in Murfreesboro. Lashley will face her former team, as she began her collegiate tenure with two years in Newark (2022-24) before transferring to Liberty. Katie Sigerud will step up to the 10K distance for the first time after finding success at various shorter distances throughout her career. The senior's top collegiate times include 4:29.03 (1,500), 9:34.74 (3K), 10:38.64 (steeplechase) and 16:57.35 (5K). A year ago, Sigerud placed fourth in the CUSA steeplechase final.
Others to Watch: Competing in the same heat at the Bryan Clay Invitational, WKU's Kinley Kunkel (33:37.38) and Middle Tennessee's Faith Nyathi (34:00.32) produced by far CUSA's two fastest times of 2026. Nyathi is the top returner from 2025, when she placed fourth on her home track. Neither WKU nor Middle Tennessee has recorded a CUSA women's 10K title previously.
Women's 100-Meter Hurdles
Event Schedule: Prelims – Thursday at 7:50 p.m. Eastern; Final – Saturday at 7:40 p.m. Eastern
Defending Champion: Marissa Simpson (UTEP) – 13.10 (Third in a row)
Meet Record: 12.97 by Jackie Coward (UCF) in 2011
Liberty Record: 13.09 by Indea Cartwright in 2025
2026 Indoor Champion (60 Hurdles): Tickia Sutton (Kennesaw State) – 8.37
2026 Leader: Alivia Rivera-Norman (Liberty) – 13.33
Liberty Entrants: Alivia Rivera-Norman
Liberty Event Titles (Last): 0 (Jada Thomas – 2019 ASUN)
Liberty Outlook: Liberty has not claimed a women's 100 hurdles conference title since 2019 (Jada Thomas – ASUN). However, Alivia Rivera-Norman is coming off an impressive 13.33 clocking to win the Liberty Twilight Qualifier, shatter Thomas' Liberty freshman record and take over the CUSA lead for 2026. Charlotte's Kayla Moore (2018) was the last freshman to claim the CUSA women's 100 hurdles crown, something which is likely to happen again on Saturday with the top five seeds all being rookies.
Others to Watch: This event swung wide open with the graduation of three-time defending champion and All-American Marissa Simpson of UTEP and Liberty's program record holder, Indea Cartwright. Middle Tennessee's Tamia Waters placed third behind Simpson and Cartwright a year ago but is seeded only No. 6 behind the aforementioned five freshmen. Kennesaw State's Tickia Sutton (No. 4 seed, 13.73) and Natalie Harris (No. 2 seed, 13.46) finished 1-2 ahead of Rivera-Norman in the CUSA indoor 60 hurdles final. UTEP's Cydni Martin (No. 3 seed, 13.52) is also a title contender in the 100 and 200. No CUSA runner has won both the 100 hurdles and a sprint event at the same conference meet since current 100 hurdles world record holder Tobi Amusan pulled off the 200/100 hurdles double victory for UTEP in 2016.
Women's 400-Meter Hurdles
Event Schedule: Prelims – Friday at 8:20 p.m. Eastern; Final – Saturday at 8:40 p.m. Eastern
Defending Champion: Loubna Benhadja (UTEP) – 56.89
Meet Record: 56.89 by Loubna Benhadja (UTEP) in 2025 and Faith Roberson (UTSA) in 2021
Liberty Record: 58.46 by Kimone Green in 2018
2026 Leader: Lauren Leath (Delaware) – 1:00.06
Liberty Entrants: Alivia Rivera-Norman and Adelle Schlotterback
Liberty Event Titles (Last): 0 (Kylie Polsgrove – 2019 ASUN)
Liberty Outlook: After not entering anyone in this event in 2025, Liberty will field a pair of freshmen (Alivia Rivera-Norman and Adelle Schlotterback) this time around. Rivera-Norman ranks No. 4 in CUSA at 1:00.76, while Schlotterback sits No. 6 at 1:01.89. Already the Liberty freshman record holder in the 60 hurdles and 100 hurdles, Rivera-Norman could chase the 400 hurdles freshman standard of 1:00.57 set by Ansley Gebben at the 2013 Big South Championship. Holly Mays-Deem (1995 Big South) is the Lady Flames' only freshman ever to win a women's 400 hurdles conference title, while Danielle McNaney (2003 Big South) was the last Lady Flame to sweep a conference's 100 hurdles and 400 hurdles crowns the same year. UCF's Jackie Coward was the most recent CUSA freshman victor in this event, claiming the first of her three 400 hurdles titles in 2009.
Others to Watch: Athletes from CUSA's two newest members rank No. 1 (Delaware's Lauren Leath – 1:00.06) and No. 2 (Missouri State's Breana Garrett – 1:00.53) this season. Leath came in fifth in the CAA final a year ago, while Garrett's top time came at this season's Southwest Baptist Invitational in the sophomore's first time contesting the event. WKU's Gianna Huerta is the top returnee from last year's CUSA final, coming in sixth.
Women's 4 x 100 Relay
Event Schedule: Final – Saturday at 7:05 p.m. Eastern
Defending Champion: UTEP – 44.07 (Second in a row)
Meet Record: 43.42 by UCF in 2011 and 2012
Liberty Record: 44.49 in 2025
2026 Leader: Kennesaw State – 44.89
Liberty Event Titles (Last): 0 (2018 Big South)
Liberty Outlook: Liberty, which last claimed a conference 4 x 100 title in 2018 (Big South), was disqualified in this event a year ago. However, the Lady Flames bounced back to post a program record of 44.49 at the NCAA Division I East First Rounds meet. Liberty has not contested a 4 x 100 relay in 2026 and will not do so in Murfreesboro either.
Others to Watch: UTEP is the two-time defending champion, giving the Miners a shot at CUSA's first "three-peat" in this event since UCF won three in a row (2010-12). However, UTEP is seeded No. 3 at 45.01, looking up at Kennesaw State (44.89) and Missouri State (44.91). The Owls are seeking their first conference 4 x 100 title since 2017 (ASUN), while Missouri State has not stood atop the podium since 2021 (MVC). No. 4 seed LA Tech (45.11) has not claimed a conference 4 x 100 crown since 2013 (WAC).
Women's 4 x 400 Relay
Event Schedule: Final – Saturday at 10 p.m. Eastern
Defending Champion: Louisiana Tech – 3:33.60
Meet Record: 3:33.60 by Louisiana Tech in 2025
Liberty Record: 3:33.20 in 2019
2026 Indoor Champion: Kennesaw State – 3:37.37
2026 Leader: Louisiana Tech – 3:30.13
Liberty Event Titles (Last): 0 (2018 Big South)
Liberty Outlook: The Lady Flames clocked 3:40.35 at the Charlotte Invitational, good for No. 3 in CUSA this season and Liberty's fastest outdoor time since qualifying for the 2019 NCAA national meet with a program-record 3:33.60 effort. The Lady Flames starred in this event indoors, placing a close second to Kennesaw State in the CUSA final in a program-best 3:37.45. If Liberty hopes to return to the NCAA Division I East First Rounds meet for the first time since 2019, it will likely need to run 3:34 or faster Saturday night.
Others to Watch: After winning in a meet-record 3:33.60 last year, Louisiana Tech has blazed a 3:30.13 already in 2026. That is good for No. 18 nationally, eight seconds faster than No. 2 seed Middle Tennessee (3:38.40). The top two finishers from the CUSA indoor final sit only No. 6 (Kennesaw State – 3:43.11) and No. 3 (Liberty – 3:40.35) thus far outdoors.
Women's Long Jump
Event Schedule: Final – Thursday at 5 p.m. Eastern
Defending Champion: Nia Thompson (Sam Houston) – 20-5.25 (6.23m)
Meet Record: 22-7.75 (6.90m) by Blessing Okagbare (UTEP) in 2009
Liberty Record: 20-8 (6.30m) by Ayanna Johnson in 2022
2026 Indoor Champion: Oghenefejiro Praise (UTEP) – 20-6.25 (6.25m)
2026 Leader: Nia Thompson (Sam Houston) – 20-7.75 (6.29m)
Liberty Event Titles (Last): 0 (Danielle McNaney – 2003 Big South)
Liberty Entrants: Lara DeFazio, Rebecca Allen and Mackenzie Boggess
Liberty Outlook: Lara DeFazio came up with a Liberty freshman-record 19-5.25 long jump to place fourth at the CUSA indoor meet and is coming off an outdoor-best 19-4.25 leap at the Liberty Twilight Qualifier last week. She currently ranks No. 9 on the CUSA outdoor chart this season and would most likely need to take down the program freshman standard (Makenzy Mizera's 19-9.5 performance from 2019) if she hopes to end the Lady Flames' title drought. Danielle McNaney's 2003 Big South victory is still Liberty's most recent outdoor title in this event.
Others to Watch: Sam Houston's Nia Thompson jumped to a CUSA title as a freshman a year ago and returns at the top seed at 20-7.75. Myesha Hall of Kennesaw State, ranked No. 2 at 20-3.5, was this year's indoor runner-up. She is one of four Owls listed among CUSA's top eight entering the meet.
Women's Triple Jump
Event Schedule: Final – Saturday at 8 p.m. Eastern
Defending Champion: Oghenefejiro Praise (UTEP) – 41-4.25 (12.60m)
Meet Record: 46-0.5 (14.03m) by Ganna Demydova (Southern Miss) in 2012
Liberty Record: 42-6 (12.95m) by Makenzy Mizera in 2021
2026 Indoor Champion: Danielle McGonigle (FIU) – 41-7 (12.67m)
2026 Leader: Danielle McGonigle (FIU) – 42-6.75 (12.97m)
Liberty Event Titles (Last): 0 (Janae Jones – 2015 Big South)
Liberty Entrants: Stephanie Robson, Mackenzie Boggess, Rebecca Allen and Lara DeFazio
Liberty Outlook: Senior Stephanie Robson (No. 8, 40-4.75) and freshman Mackenzie Boggess (No. 10, 39-10.5) both rank among the top 10 outdoor women's triple jumpers in program history. With this marking the meet's final field event, they will try to score the Lady Flames' first CUSA points in this event (indoors or outdoors) since the 2024 outdoor championship, where Makenzy Mizera was second and Kacy Cox took seventh.
Others to Watch: Two-time defending indoor champion and outdoor top seed (42-6.75) Danielle McGonigle of FIU is favored to capture the Panthers' first-ever CUSA outdoor title in this event. No. 2 seed Victoria Joyce of Kennesaw State (41-10.75) took second at this meet a year ago, while No. 3 seed Viktoria Rusnakova of Middle Tennessee claimed the 2024 outdoor victory.
Women's High Jump
Event Schedule: Final – Friday at 8:30 p.m. Eastern
Defending Champion: Amaya Bien-Aime (FIU) – 5-8.75 (1.75m)
Meet Record: 6-3.5 (1.92m) by Gaelle Niare (SMU) in 2006
Liberty Record: 5-10 (1.78m) by Kena Butts in 2005
2026 Indoor Champion: A'Reil Williams (Louisiana Tech) – 5-9.75 (1.77m)
2026 Leader: Amaya Bien-Aime and Luca Keszthelyi (FIU) – 5-9.75 (1.77m)
Liberty Event Titles (Last): 0 (Erin Zappia – 2018 Big South)
Liberty Entrants: Patasha Bryan, Eva Whiteman and Meredith Engle
Liberty Outlook: Eva Whiteman and Patasha Bryan have each made it over 5-7.25 this season, putting them in a tie for fifth place on the CUSA list. Whiteman came in second at this meet as a freshman in 2024, while Bryan will be competing after wrapping up the heptathlon earlier in the day on Friday.
Others to Watch: Defending outdoor champion Amaya Bien-Aime of FIU shares the top seed with teammate Luca Keszthelyi (2025 indoor champion) at 5-9.75 and will look to become the first back-to-back high jump titlist at this meet since 2016-18 (FIU's Clarissa Cutliff). No. 3 seed A'Reil Williams of Louisiana Tech (5-8.75) owns two CUSA high jump titles (2024 outdoor and 2026 indoor).
Women's Pole Vault
Event Schedule: Final – Friday at 6 p.m. Eastern
Defending Champion: Alla Parnov (UTEP) – 13-2.25 (4.02m)
Meet Record: 14-3.25 (4.35m) by Filippa Miller (FIU) in 2023
Liberty Record: 14-3.25 (4.35m) by Andrea Wildrick in 2002
2026 Indoor Champion: Kylie Neira (FIU) – 13-7.75 (4.16m)
2026 Leader: Kylie Neira (FIU) – 13-10 (4.22m)
Liberty Event Titles (Last): 0 (Taylen Langin – 2023 ASUN)
Liberty Entrants: Katie Urbine
Liberty Outlook: Seeded No. 7 at 12-9.5, Katie Urbine's top career CUSA pole vault finish is fourth (2024 outdoor and 2026 indoor). The junior made it over 13-3.75 for her fourth-place indoor showing in February. If she does that again on Friday, Urbine could return to the NCAA Division I East First Rounds meet for the second time in three years.
Others to Watch: FIU freshman Kylie Neira vaulted to the CUSA indoor title and is the top outdoor seed at 13-10, as she aims to become the third different Panther to claim the CUSA outdoor crown in the last four years. WKU's Natalie Papes has been the runner-up at the most recent CUSA indoor and outdoor pole vault competitions and is seeded third with a 12-11.75 season best. First-year Kennesaw State vaulter Morgan Pepe is the only CUSA woman other than Neira to make it over four meters (13-1.5) this outdoor season.
Women's Shot Put
Event Schedule: Final – Friday at 6 p.m. Eastern
Defending Champion: Bethany Tate (Liberty) – 49-3.5 (15.02m)
Meet Record: 62-2.25 (18.95m) by KeAyla Dove (North Texas) in 2023
Liberty Record: 53-0.75 (16.17m) by Naomi Mojica in 2021
2026 Indoor Champion: Bethany Tate (Liberty) – 50-5.5 (15.38m)
2026 Leader: Bethany Tate (Liberty) – 52-1 (15.87m)
Liberty Event Titles (Last): 1 (Bethany Tate – 2025)
Liberty Entrants: Bethany Tate, Tabby DeJong and Meredith Engle
Liberty Outlook: The women's shot put provided one of the defining moments of Liberty's CUSA team title a year ago, with freshmen Bethany Tate and Tabby DeJong placing a surprise 1-2. Tate joined program greats Mychelle Cumings (2012 Big South) and Naomi Mojica (2018 Big South) as Liberty freshmen to win this event outdoors as freshmen. Since then, the Texas native has gone on to claim the 2026 CUSA indoor shot put crown and then punch her first NCAA Division I East First Rounds meet ticket with a personal-best and CUSA-leading 52-1 effort at the Florida Relays. The last CUSA woman to capture back-to-back outdoor shot put titles was SMU's Helena Perez in 2012 and 2013. DeJong is coming off a season-best 44-11.5 put at the Liberty Twilight Qualifier, climbing to No. 6 in the conference this season.
Others to Watch: Kamryn Cadle (50-6.75 season best) and Alesha Lane (49-10.5) are both contenders to claim New Mexico State's second title in three years at this meet. Lane finished just an inch and a half behind Tate during an exciting back-and-forth CUSA indoor showdown in February.
Women's Discus
Event Schedule: Final – Saturday at 6 p.m. Eastern
Defending Champion: Esther Osisike (UTEP) – 184-5 (56.22m)
Defending Champion (CAA): Olamide Ayeni (Delaware) – 172-4 (52.53m)
Meet Record: 191-9 (58.44m) by Dayana Octavian (South Florida) in 2004
Liberty Record: 179-6 (54.71m) by Chelsea Igberaese in 2019
2026 Leader: Olamide Ayeni (Delaware) – 176-8 (53.85m)
Liberty Event Titles (Last): 0 (Megan Mann – 2023 ASUN)
Liberty Entrants: Bethany Tate and Ellie Stine
Liberty Outlook: After placing fourth as a freshman, Bethany Tate ranks No. 4 in CUSA at 163-9 this season. That puts her on the cusp of becoming the seventh Lady Flame ever to reach 50 meters in this event and not far off qualifying for the NCAA Division I East First Rounds meet in a second event. The women's discus is the only throwing event (men's or women's) where Liberty does not have an athlete ranked inside the East Region's top 48 entering the week.
Others to Watch: CUSA's top three discus throwers this year (Delaware's Olamide Ayeni – 176-8, New Mexico State's Alesha Lane – 176-4 and LA Tech's Kaitlyn Washington – 175-7) are separated by only 13 inches. Ayeni captured the CAA title a year ago as a freshman, while Lane (third place) is the top returnee from the 2025 CUSA final. No CUSA women's thrower has swept the shot put and discus crowns since SMU's Simone du Toit did so three years in a row (2009-11).
Women's Javelin
Event Schedule: Final – Saturday at 2 p.m. Eastern
Defending Champion: Arndis Oskarsdottir (FIU) – 173-4 (52.84m)
Defending Champion (MVC): Reagan Reedy (Missouri State) – 148-4 (45.22m)
Meet Record: 185-5 (56.53m) by Arianne Morais (UTEP) in 2024
Liberty Record: 166-1 (50.62m) by Isabella Frattura in 2026
2026 Leader: Arndis Oskarsdottir (FIU) – 178-9 (54.48m)
Liberty Event Titles (Last): 0 (Mackenzie Hainley – 2021 ASUN)
Liberty Entrants: Isabella Frattura, Meredith Engle, Patasha Bryan and Emily Norris
Liberty Outlook: Liberty's Addilae Watts heaved the javelin a program-record 161-9 for a CUSA runner-up finish a year ago. She is redshirting this season while freshman Isabella Frattura has broken Watts' mark twice, most recently with a 166-1 toss at the Florida Relays. Seeded No. 3 as the only non-FIU Panther among the top four, Frattura will attempt to claim the Lady Flames' first conference javelin crown since 2021 (Mackenzie Hainley – ASUN). Hainley was also Liberty's most recent freshman victor in this event, capturing the 2019 ASUN title. Heptathlon standouts Meredith Engle (10th event) and Patasha Bryan (ninth event) could each be deep into a busy weekend, Saturday afternoon. Meanwhile, freshman Emily Norris will make her debut in a Liberty uniform. Competing unattached, she heaved the javelin 148-11 at last week's Liberty Twilight Qualifier. Norris was the 2025 USATF National Junior Olympic javelin champion following her senior year of high school in Indiana.
Others to Watch: FIU's Arndis Oskarsdottir won this event as a freshman in 2025, a month before competing at the NCAA national meet. Her lone javelin competition of 2026 so far resulted in a Florida Relays victory with the nation's No. 15 mark, 178-9. Two of Oskarsdottir's teammates have also eclipsed 50 meters this year, including Isabell-Mary Luik (170-0) and Selena Calix (164-0).
Women's Hammer
Event Schedule: Final – Thursday at 5 p.m. Eastern
Defending Champion: Michaelle Valentin (FIU) – 217-9 (66.37m)
Meet Record: 227-8 (69.39m) by Tara Simpson-Sullivan (Rice) in 2022
Liberty Record: 215-7 (65.73m) by Paola Bueno in 2025
2026 Indoor Champion (Weight): Kali Terza (Kennesaw State) – 69-4 (21.13m)
2026 Leader: Kali Terza (Kennesaw State) – 226-6 (69.05m)
Liberty Event Titles (Last): 1 (Paola Bueno – 2024)
Liberty Entrants: Sophie Gonzalez and Ellie Stine
Liberty Outlook: With two-time women's hammer All-American Paola Bueno taking a redshirt, first-year Lady Flame Sophie Gonzalez has stepped forward. Her season-best effort of 203-8 at the Virginia Challenge sits No. 2 in CUSA this season and No. 4 in program history. Gonzalez is also the Guatemalan record holder, thanks to a 204-4 effort in 2025, and came in 11th in the 2023 ACC hammer final while representing Wake Forest.
Others to Watch: All-American Kali Terza of Kennesaw State ranks No. 5 nationally with her personal-best 226-6 bomb at the Florida Relays. The 13th-place finisher in last year's NCAA women's hammer final is chasing her second career conference title in this event. Terza was previously victorious at the 2023 ASUN meet. Four of the last five CUSA women's hammer champions have gone on to claim All-America honors in the event the next month.
Women's Heptathlon
Event Schedule: Day One – Begins Thursday at 11 a.m. Eastern; Day Two – Begins Friday at Noon Eastern
Defending Champion: Meredith Engle (Liberty) – 5,164
Meet Record: 5,832 by Elizabeth Dadzie (Middle Tennessee) in 2017
Liberty Record: 5,567 by Patasha Bryan in 2026
2026 Indoor Champion (Pentathlon): Patasha Bryan (Liberty) – 3,942
2026 Leader: Patasha Bryan (Liberty) – 5,567
Liberty Event Titles (Last): 2 (Meredith Engle – 2025)
Liberty Entrants: Patasha Bryan, Paige Greenhagel and Meredith Engle
Liberty Outlook: Liberty seniors Patasha Bryan (2024 pentathlon, 2024 heptathlon, 2026 pentathlon) and Meredith Engle (2025 pentathlon, 2025 heptathlon) have combined to win every women's combined event title since joining CUSA. Bryan is favored to win this week, thanks to her program-record score of 5,567 at the Bryan Clay Multis. That eclipsed Danielle McNaney's record of 5,504 that had stood since the 2005 Penn Relays and currently ranks No. 24 nationally. Most likely, Bryan will need to break the record once again in Murfreesboro if she wants to become the first Lady Flame since McNaney to reach the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships next month. Engle, a 2025 pentathlon All-American with a heptathlon best of 5,414, will compete in just her second meet since claiming the 2025 CUSA heptathlon crown a year ago. The sixth-year senior made her return to action at last week's Liberty Twilight Qualifier in three events (high jump, shot put and javelin). Meet record holder (5,832 in 2017) Elizabeth Dadzie of Middle Tennessee was the most recent back-to-back CUSA heptathlon champion (2016 and 2017). Kylie Polsgrove earned the Lady Flames' last consecutive heptathlon crowns, including the 2017 and 2018 Big South and 2019 ASUN titles. Paige Greenhagel, who is concluding her collegiate career this season along with Bryan and Engle, tallied a personal-best 4,697 points at the Bryan Clay Multis last month to earn CUSA's No. 4 seed. Her best previous placement in a CUSA heptathlon is fifth as a freshman in 2024.
Others to Watch: FIU could provide Liberty's strongest challenge in this week's heptathlon competition. Nyla Fulvi tallied 5,062 points earlier this season, while Itsaso Madariaga Huegun was a close second to Bryan in the CUSA pentathlon in February. The Panthers have never earned a CUSA heptathlon crown.

Liberty Record: 9.88 by Omari Lewis in 2024
2026 Indoor Champion (60 Meters): Chance Cross (Kennesaw State) – 6.56
2026 Leader: Mustapha Bokpin (Middle Tennessee) – 10.11
Event Schedule: Prelims – Friday at 8:40 p.m. Eastern; Final – Saturday at 8:50 p.m. Eastern
Defending Champion: Kameron Horton (Western Kentucky) – 20.42

Eastern
Defending Champion: Brian Limo (Kennesaw State) – 14:14.03
Meet Record: 13:51.64 by Nick Scudder (Charlotte) in 2023
Liberty Record: 13:20.43 by Josh McDougal in 2007
2026 Indoor Champion: Moses Lekokei (Middle Tennessee) – 14:16.67
