Liberty Athletics Earns 3rd Straight CUSA Institutional Excellence Award

LYNCHBURG, Va. – For the third consecutive year, Liberty Athletics has earned the Conference USA Institutional Excellence Award. The award is given to the institution with the highest GPA during each academic year for all student-athletes in conference-sponsored sports.
Liberty Athletics ended the 2025-26 school year with a 3.42 cumulative GPA, the highest mark among all CUSA schools and best year-end mark in athletics department history.
Additionally, Liberty earned CUSA Sport Academic Awards (recognizing the highest team cumulative GPAs for their respective sports) for men's track & field (3.43 cumulative GPA) and women's track & field (3.63 cumulative GPA). Men's track & field garnered the honor for the third year in a row, while women's track & field made it back-to-back CUSA Sport Academic Awards.
Men's track & field swept the CUSA indoor and outdoor team crowns, while women's track & field claimed the outdoor team championship. They accounted for three of Liberty's nine CUSA titles in 2025-26, also including trophies earned by women's soccer (both regular season and tournament), men's basketball (regular season), women's cross country, women's tennis and golf. Liberty has now claimed 30 CUSA titles during its first three years of conference membership.
All 20 of Liberty's teams earned a 3.0 or higher GPA for the spring 2026 semester, and every team is currently maintaining a 3.0 or greater cumulative GPA.
This is also the third straight year all 20 teams finished with a 3.0 or higher GPA for a school year after the feat had never been achieved prior to 2023-24. This is the fourth semester that all 20 Liberty Athletics squads have had a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Overall, the cumulative GPA for Liberty's 540-plus student-athletes has risen in 17 of the last 19 semesters. Individually, a total of 132 student-athletes achieved a perfect 4.0 GPA during the spring 2026 semester, while 60 concluded the 2025-26 school year with an unblemished 4.0 cumulative GPA. A CUSA-best 149 student-athletes earned a 2025-26 Commissioner's Academic Medal for posting a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or better.
At the conclusion of the spring 2026 semester, 439 student-athletes are maintaining a 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA (80.7 percent).
Walking alongside Liberty's student-athletes is the Academic Affairs for Athletics Staff. This team provides all the necessary tools to excel in the classroom.
