
Lacrosse Sets Off for Longwood, First Road Game of the Spring

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Liberty lacrosse team (0-4) looks to pick up its first victory of the season when it takes on local rival Longwood (0-4) on Wednesday at 5 p.m. in Farmville. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
Both teams seek their first victory of the spring when they meet on Wednesday evening. Liberty will be on the road for the first time this season following four consecutive home meetings in February.
Three of the Lady Flames' four losses in the early season have come against ranked opponents. Liberty opened the season against No. 8 Johns Hopkins (17-7) and was taken down by No. 24 (17-8) Virginia and No. 25 Richmond (16-6).
The two programs are currently in a stalemate in series history with a 6-6 record all-time. Liberty has won the last six meetings with its last loss against the Lancers in 2015.
Freshman Sophia Nesci has stood out for Liberty in the first month of the 2026 season. The Syracuse, N.Y. native leads the team in all scoring categories with seven goals, five assists and 12 points. She has scored in every game this spring.

- 2025 ASUN Defensive Player of the Year, Jenna Burrow, made her first start of the season on Saturday against No. 25 Richmond. The start marked the first game in which all seven starting midfielders and defenders from 2025 competed this spring.
- Senior Ava Rajala recorded her 100th career point on Saturday. She has tallied three goals and three assists (six points) in four games.
- Liberty ranks No. 2 in the country with 15.50 caused turnovers per game (trailing Johns Hopkins 16.17). Midfielder Katie Colavito leads the team with nine.
- The Lady Flames rank No. 5 nationally with 19.75 ground balls per game. Colavito also leads the team in the category with 12.
- Goalkeeper Rachel Hines ranks No. 8 in the country with 10.25 saves per game. Through four games, she has earned a 15.75 goals-against average and a .394 save percentage.
- Liberty has begun the season 0-4 for the first time in program history; the team has owned a 1-4 record in eight seasons in its 16 years of existence. In 2023, Liberty began the year1-4 including four losses to ranked opponents. The team went on to win the ASUN Regular Season Championship with a 12-7 record (7-0 ASUN).
- The Lady Flames owned a 4-6 record on the road last season.
- Liberty and Longwood most recently met last season, with Liberty dominating at home in a 21-4 triumph.
