
Liberty Handles Longwood 16-4 in its First Win of the Season

FARMVILLE, Va. – The Liberty lacrosse team (1-4) soared to a commanding 16-4 victory over the Longwood Lancers at Elizabeth Burger Jackson Field on Wednesday night. Liberty's well-rounded attack showcased four power-play goals, sealing their dominant initial win of the season.
Katie Colavito led all players, tying a career record with six goals. Freshman Sophia Nesci recorded her second consecutive hat trick along with two assists.
Longwood netted the initial score of the contest before Liberty ended the first quarter with a 3-1 lead. The Lancers scored to open the second and would not add another tally for over 35 minutes of game time. After holding a 3-2 lead, the Lady Flames rattled off 13 consecutive scores to pull away with a commanding 16-2 score.
Freshman Claire Christensen recorded her first career goal in the contest via a free-position shot. Another freshman, goalkeeper Kiley Wilson made her first appearance, recording her first save.
Liberty extends its winning streak over Longwood to seven games, improving its all-time head-to-head record to 7-6.

Liberty then took charge, with Vang scoring a woman-down goal assisted by Nesci, giving them a lead they would not relinquish. Colavito added another goal, extending the lead to 3-1 by the end of the quarter. Liberty maintained momentum through Nina Gray's five draw controls, finishing the quarter ahead.
Second Quarter: LU-9, LW-2
The Lady Flames dominated the second quarter, with Colavito scoring twice, including a woman-up goal at 3:37 with an assist from Vang. The quarter saw Liberty's offense flourish, with Sophia Nesci adding two goals, one assisted by Ava Rajala at 1:03, further extending their lead. Vang capped the quarter with a goal just four seconds before the end. Liberty's offensive surge resulted in a 6-1 scoring advantage for the quarter, increasing their lead to 9-2 overall at the end of the second.
Third Quarter: LU-15, LW-2
Rajala initiated a strong third quarter for Liberty with two quick goals, one assisted by Jenna Burrow, within the first four minutes. Building on the momentum, Liberty capitalized on a woman-up situation with a goal from Nesci following a free-position shot. The offensive surge continued with Colavito scoring on another woman-up opportunity, assisted by Olivia Young, maintaining their control. Delaney Donohue set up Amelia Loughery for another score, and Young added to the tally, concluding the quarter with an impressive display.
Liberty did not allow a goal in the third frame, holding Longwood to two shots.
Fourth Quarter: LU-16, LW-4
Liberty maintained its lead in the final quarter with a goal from Claire Christensen at 9:58, the first of her career. The Lancers added two goals in the quarter, but Liberty's earlier performance secured the victory. The game concluded with a final score of 16-4 in favor of Liberty.
