MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Liberty posted its best team showing of the 2025-26 season, finishing the Michael C. Marino Classic in fifth place on Tuesday.
Liberty carded a 1-under par 863 (284-280-299) following three rounds at the Dunes Golf & Beach Club (par 72, 7,233 yards).
Cooler temperatures and higher winds caused scores to significantly rise during the final round with only two teams in the 16-team field posting final round scores in red figures.
Round three's field scoring average finished at 74.39 as compared to a 72.59 scoring averaging during the second round, a 1.8 stroke increase by the 90-man field.
Ike Joy paced the Flames during the event, carding a 5-under par 211 (71-66-74) to finish tied for eighth place. The graduate's best finish of the season was thanks in part to 12 birdies, which ranked tied for third in the field.
Michael Lugiano followed two strokes behind Joy, allowing the sophomore to record his sixth top-25 finish of the season. He ended the event tied for 11th place with a 3-under par 213 (71-68-74).
NC State claimed the team title in the event, carding a winning score of 15-under par 849 (284-280-285). The Wolfpack finished four shots clear of No. 33 Louisville, who finished as the event's runner up with a final score of 11-under par 853 (282-283-288).
