2 Flames Named Cobalt Golf All-America Scholars

Liberty's Ike Joy and Michael Lugiano have been named to the 2026 Cobalt Golf All-America Scholars team after an outstanding year on the course and in the classroom.
This is Joy's third appearance on college golf's top scholar-athlete listing, which is presented by Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). Lugiano is making his first appearance on the team.
Liberty has placed at least one golfer on the Cobalt Golf All-America Scholars team for the last 10 seasons and had 24 total golfers named to the list since 1993 (for a total of 40 selections).
A record total of 626 NCAA Division I student-athletes from 202 schools earned 2025-26 Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar honors.
To be eligible for Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar nomination, an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically in NCAA Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their associate's degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA.
In addition, they must participate in 50 percent of their team's competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0 in NCAA Division I, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at their college or university.
During his final season with the Flames, Joy ranked fourth on the team with a 72.20 season stroke average. He played 16-of-35 rounds at par or better (45.7 percent) and posted four sub-70 rounds.
The graduate student was one of the most consistent players on the course for Liberty, leading the team with 408 pars for the season.
Lugiano was well recognized during the 2025-26 season. He was named to the Conference USA first team, the PING All-Region East team and was a PING All-America honorable mention selection.
Lugiano had a banner season for Liberty, which propelled the Flames onto a Conference USA title and himself individually onto the national scene.
The native of Jackson Township, Pa., led the Flames with a 70.61 season stroke average, which was the second lowest scoring average in program history.
Lugiano played 27-of-38 rounds at par or better in 2025-26 (71.1 percent) and posted 14 sub-70 rounds.
Joy and Lugiano helped the Flames capture their second Conference USA title in the last three seasons and the ninth conference title in program history.
Liberty's CUSA title pushed the Flames back into NCAA Regional play for the 15th time in program history and 13th time in the last 15 seasons.
The Flames finished the NCAA Corvallis Regional tied for fifth place and saw Lugiano win the regional event with a 12-under par 201.
The individual victory at the NCAA Corvallis Regional earned Lugiano an individual spot at the NCAA Men's Golf National Championship where he finished tied for 47th place with an even par 216.
This marked the fourth best individual finish in Liberty's five different appearances at the national championship (Team: 2012, 2019, 2021 and 2022 | Individual: 2026).
