
Flames Lead Michael C. Marino Classic Through 27 Holes

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – A strong start to the second round has Liberty sitting atop the leaderboard midway through Round 2 of the Michael C. Marino Classic on Sunday.
With the threat of strong storms set to blanket the East Coast on Monday, tournament officials decided to play an additional nine holes at the Dunes Golf & Beach Club (par 72, 7,233 yards) on Sunday.
After opening the event with a 4-under par 284 during the first round, Liberty sat in second place behind No. 33 Louisville, who carded a 6-under par 282 during the morning flight.
The Flames have already doubled their under-par score through the first nine holes of the second round.
Liberty is 8-under par midway through the round, which moved the Flames to the top of the 16-team leaderboard by the end of the day.
When play was halted, Liberty currently holds the No. 1 spot in the leaderboard at 12-under par, followed by No. 33 Louisville (11-under par), NC State (10-under par) and tournament host Coastal Carolina (7-under par).
Ike Joy and Michael Lugiano have helped Liberty's ascension as the pair of golfers are a combined 7-under par during the second round.
Joy opened the second round with a bogey, but he quickly erased the over-par score with five birdies before making the turn. Joy is currently tied for fifth place at 5-under par.
Lugiano birdied four of his first six holes to start the second round, but closed with a bogey on the par-4, No. 18 hole (430 yards). He is currently tied for eighth place at 4-under par.
Play is tentatively scheduled to resume at 8:45 a.m. on Monday with the hopes of finishing the second round before the inclement weather moves into the Myrtle Beach area.
