
Flames Enter Rod Myers Invitational Final Round in 7th Place

DURHAM, N.C. – Despite shaving five strokes off its opening-day total, Liberty was unable to keep up the pace of play by the top teams at the Rod Myers Invitational on Saturday and has dropped into seventh place.
The Flames posted a 1-under par 287 on Saturday at Duke University Golf Club (par 72, 7,146 yards). The team opened the event with a 4-over 292 on Friday.
However, the six teams that are ahead of the Flames entering tomorrow's final round fired a combined 34-under par during their second trip around Duke's home golf course.
Liberty enters tomorrow's final round in seventh place with an overall score of 3-over par 579 (292-287).
Tournament host Duke holds a slight lead at the top of the 10-team leaderboard. The Blue Devils lead the field with an overall score of 12-under par 564 (282-282).
UNCW trails Duke by just two strokes entering tomorrow's final round, as the Seahawks 36-hole total stands at a 10-under par 566 (283-283).
Harvard and Loyola (Md.) were two of the hottest teams on the course today, carding a 10-under par 278.
Harvard (293-278) shares third place with Indiana (286-285) as both teams enter the final round with an overall score of 5-under par 571.
Loyola leapfrogged the Flames on the leaderboard and is in sixth place, five shots clear of Liberty with a 2-under par 574 (296-278).
Liberty will enter tomorrow's final round with three golfers inside the top 25 individual rankings.
Josh Ryan (73-71) and Michael Lugiano (72-72) are tied for 21st place with an even par score of 144. Luke Libbey is one shot back in 25th place with a 1-over par 145 (73-72).
Outside of their starting five golfers, Liberty has three other players competing in the tournament as an individual.
Freshman Silas Haarer posted his first collegiate sub-70 round today, carding a 3-under par 69. He will enter the final round tied for ninth place with an overall score of 3-under par 141 (72-69).
The Flames will be sent off the No. 10 tee to start the final round on Sunday, starting at 8:28 a.m. Liberty will be paired with golfers from Princeton and Georgetown.
