After helping Liberty open conference play with two sweeps, junior outside hitter Jenna Otts has been named Conference USA (CUSA) Offensive Player of the Week.
A native of Saint Johns, Fla., Otts receives her first career conference player of the week honor. This is the fifth week in a row in which a Liberty player has received this honor. Paige Overcash was named CUSA Offensive Player of the Week each of the first three weeks of the season before Carly O'Brien earned the honor last week.
The last school to win CUSA Offensive Player of the Week five weeks in a row was Rice, when Nicole Lennon received the honor each of the first five weeks of the 2019 season.
Otts extended her 10-kill streak to nine matches, fueling Liberty's offense during a pair of 3-0 sweeps over Louisiana Tech. Â
For the weekend, she hit .435 from the outside hitter position while averaging 4.00 kills per set. Otts was the only player in the Liberty-LA Tech series to reach double figures in kills in a match, and she did so both days.
On Friday, she hit .500 with a match-high 13 kills, helping Liberty hit a season-high .440 for the match. It was her second time this season (also at West Virginia) hitting .500 or better while scoring 12 or more kills. Otts then led all players with 11 kills on Saturday, hitting .375 during a 3-0 sweep.
The Lady Flames (14-1, 2-0 CUSA) head to El Paso, Texas, to take on UTEP, Friday and Saturday. It will be the only CUSA series this weekend in which both teams are 2-0 on conference play.
