
Liberty Falls 2-0 to No. 17 Virginia in Home Opener

Virginia midfielder Lia Godfrey broke the game open with a crisp free kick in front of the goal face. The set piece shot went just beyond goalkeeper Ainsley Leja's diving reach.
The Cavaliers added to their lead with a clean passing sequence to enter the box. Forward Allie Ross placed a shot through Liberty's Lauren Littleton's feet into the far end of the goal.
The two teams played an even first half as each team secured multiple scoring chances. Leja starred for Liberty to open the contest, making five saves in the first 45 minutes.
Liberty drops its home opener for the first time since 2021 (2-1 vs. VCU). The Lady Flames fall to 0-17 all-time against the in-state foes.

- Leja made a season high six saves on 18 total shots faced. She takes her first loss in a regular season game since a 2-0 loss to New Mexico State on Sept. 30, 2023.
- Virginia earned eight corner kicks to a single opportunity for Liberty. The Lady Flames' lone corner came in the final 10 minutes of the contest.
- Liberty midfielder Bri Myers left the game in the first half. Later, midfielder Avenley Monteith was forced to leave the contest but returned near the final minutes of the contest.
- Three Lady Flames - Leja, Littleton and Kayla Magee - played a full 90-minute contest.

Liberty (2-1-1) returns to Osborne Stadium on Thursday to take on another in-state opponent when it hosts No. 15 Virginia Tech. The contest is set for a 6 p.m. start and will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
