Joy Set to Tee It Up at NCAA Amherst Regional
5/10/2025 10:37:00โฏAM | Men's Golf
Schedule Note: Due to inclement weather forecasts for early next week, the start of the NCAA Amherst Regional at Poplar Grove Golf Club has been moved to Sunday. Round 1 on Sunday will now begin at 1:45 p.m. EST. Liberty's Ike Joy will tee off at 4:08 p.m. off the No. 1 tee.
Liberty's Ike Joy will face his toughest test of the season when he tees it up alongside 13 teams and nine other individuals at next week's NCAA Amherst Regional.
ย ย ย ย ย
Joy, who is ranked No. 162 in the country, was selected as an individual into the NCAA Regional field that will be hosted by Liberty at the Poplar Grove Golf Club (par 70, 7,212 yards) in Amherst, Va.
ย ย ย ย ย
The NCAA Amherst Regional field only includes four conference champions, with most teams earning their way into the field based upon their strong play during the regular season.
ย ย ย ย ย
The 13-team field includes No. 6 LSU, No. 7 Oklahoma, No. 18 Vanderbilt, No. 19 Pepperdine, No. 30 Tennessee, No. 31 Arizona, No. 42 Stanford and No. 43 Wake Forest.
ย ย ย ย ย
Joy is the third-best ranked individual in the field, joining No. 98 Andrew Swanson of Clemson and No. 154 Kaleb Wilson of West Virginia.
ย ย ย ย ย
Joy will need to finish as the low individual not on an advancing team at the NCAA Amherst Regional to advance to the 2025 NCAA Men's Golf Championship, held at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, Calif., May 23-28.
ย ย ย ย ย
Joy enters the NCAA Amherst Regional on the heels of his best season at Liberty. The redshirt junior currently leads the Flames with a 71.08 season stroke average, which lowered his career stroke average to 72.56.
ย ย ย ย ย
The native of Denver, N.C., has played 15-of-24 rounds at par or better (62.5 percent) and has posted eight sub-70 rounds during the 2024-25 campaign.
ย ย ย ย ย
The All-CUSA first-team selection paced Liberty during stroke play at the CUSA Men's Golf Championship. He finished in second place with a 7-under par 209 (68-71-70) where he took second place.
ย ย ย ย ย
Joy missed a putt on the 18th hole of Round 3 where he could have forced a playoff with New Mexico State's Aidan Thomas for conference championship medalist honors.
ย ย ย ย ย ย
This will be Joy's second NCAA Regional experience. Last year, Joy finished tied for 47th place with a 4-over par 214 (72-71-71) at the NCAA Stanford Regional at the Stanford Golf Course (par 70, 6,727 yards) in Stanford, Calif.
ย ย ย ย ย
With the NCAA Regional selection, Joy keeps a streak alive for the Flames. Liberty has had an individual or team participate in NCAA Regional play each year since 2009.
ย ย ย ย ย
Joy becomes the fourth golfer in school history to individually qualify for an NCAA Regional. He joins Liberty Athletics Hall of Famer Robert Karlsson (2009 and 2010), Max McKay (2010) and Isaiah Logue (2015) as individuals who have qualified for NCAA Regional play.
