
No. 21 Lady Flames Top Drexel, Georgetown on Day 1 of Liberty Softball Invitational

LYNCHBURG, Va. - Liberty earned wins over both Drexel (10-4) and Georgetown (6-0) on day one of the Liberty Softball Invitational, Friday at Kamphuis Field at Liberty Softball Stadium.
The Lady Flames improve to 14-4 on the season, including 6-1 at home. Meanwhile, Drexel (0-12) went 0-2 today while Georgetown (7-3) split a pair of games.

Turning Point
- Drexel tied the game at 3-3 on a bases-loaded walk in the top of the third. The Lady Flames responded with three in the home half.
- All told, Liberty outscored Drexel 7-1 down the stretch to earn the 10-4 victory.
- The Lady Flames outhit the Dragons 12-9 for the game. Drexel committed two errors, compared to one for Liberty. The visitors left 11 batters on, compared to six for the host Lady Flames.
- Tyler Oubre (2-0) earned the win, allowing one run on five hits, walking two and a career-high six strikeouts in five relief innings.
- Madison Taylor (0-5) drew the loss, yielding 10 runs (eight earned) on 11 hits, walking five and fanning one in 5 2/3 innings.
- KK Madrey went 2-for-3 with a homer, three RBI, three stolen bases and three runs scored. Rachel Roupe batted 2-for-3 with a triple and two runs scored, while Paige Doerr went 2-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored. Rachel Craine hit her first homer of the season.
- For Drexel, Lily Meuninck, Mia Garza and Kalea Calugay all had two hits.
- Liberty leads the all-time series against Drexel, 2-0, with the only previous meeting being a 9-2 Liberty win, Feb. 26, 2011.
- Madrey and Craine both hit their first home runs in today's first game.
- Liberty tied a program record with three sacrifice flies. For the second time this season (also Feb. 22 versus Saint Joseph's) and fourth time in program history, the Lady Flames had three sac flies in a single game.
- Today's game against Drexel was Madrey's third contest with three stolen bases this season.

- Escobar (4-1) tossed her fifth career shutout and first of the season, allowing three hits while tying her career high with 10 strikeouts.
- Kayla Dunn (3-2) sustained the loss. Both Dunn (two innings pitched) and Sage Hager (four IP) allowed three runs.

- Liberty now leads Georgetown, 4-3, in the all-time softball series. The Hoyas had won the last two meetings, with the most recent being an 8-0 Georgetown win over the Lady Flames, Feb. 28, 2014.
- The Lady Flames have set a program record with 14 wins in the month of February. The previous team record for February wins was 10, set in 2018.
- Escobar's 10 strikeouts tied a career high, her fourth career 10-strikeout game. The last time she fanned 10 was against Georgia in the 2024 NCAA Athens Regional final.
- Alyssa Henault is now 5-for-8 as a pinch hitter this season.
- Doerr became the ninth Lady Flame with a homer this year.
- Madrey is now in fifth place in program history with 61 steals as a Lady Flame, passing Blair Lawrence (2013-16) for fifth today.
- Madrey scored her 100th collegiate run today, between her time at LSU and Liberty.
- Roupe passed Katie Zavodny (2011-14) into sixth place in program history with 132 career runs scored. Roupe is now in sole possession of third all-time at Liberty with 151 career RBI, passing Autumn Bishop (2017-21) today.
