
Lady Flames Secure Historic 14-13 Victory at No. 20 Richmond

RICHMOND, Va. – The Liberty women's lacrosse team, behind four goals a piece from Taiva Reinertson and Olivia Young, secured its highest-ranked win in program history with a 14-13 triumph on the road over No. 20 Richmond on Saturday. The Lady Flames (2-2) pick up their second consecutive victory while the Spiders (2-2) have fallen in back-to-back contests.
The ranked win is the second all-time in program history and the first-ever win over Richmond (previously 0-11). Liberty previously topped No. 21 Jacksonville 12-10 on the road on April 1, 2023.
The Lady Flames added constant pressure throughout the game and didn't look back after gaining their first lead of the game at the 0:42 mark in the first quarter.
Olivia Young, a freshman, opened the fourth quarter with her fourth tally of the game to extend the lead to 14-9. Richmond did not fade away, taking advantage of an unreasonable yellow card to trim the deficit to a single goal with just over two minutes remaining.
Goalkeeper Rachel Hines made her final save of the game at the 2:02 mark to help Liberty gain possession and run out the possession clock. Richmond called a timeout, facing the length of the field with :25 remaining. Liberty leaned on its defense and four fourth-quarter saves from Hines to hold on to the victory.
Hines was vital for Liberty's success on Sunday with 11 crucial saves and two ground balls.
Reinertson recorded her second consecutive game with four goals (Feb. 15 at VCU). The senior added three assists on the day to lead all players with seven points.

Liberty answered with three consecutive goals from Mackenzie Lehman (8:03), Reinertson (5:42) and Young (4:44) to build a 12-7 lead.
The two squads traded scores across the next four tallies. Richmond netted the final four scores of the game, but the five-goal lead provided by Young (4Q, 11:52) held for the momentous triumph.
