LYNCHBURG, Va. – Looking to get past a rough opening weekend against a pair of top-10 opponents, Liberty women's lacrosse (0-2) seeks to get back on track visiting VCU (0-1) on Saturday. First draw is set for 1 p.m. from Cary Street Field. The matchup will be streamed live on ESPN+.
The Lady Flames opened the season at No. 9 Virginia (Feb. 7) and fell 20-5 despite a strong performance from goalkeeper Rachel Hines (15 saves on 39 shots faced). Liberty hosted No. 4 North Carolina last Sunday concluding with a 23-1 defeat.
Liberty looks to improve on a 2-1 all-time record against VCU. The Lady Flames most recently topped the Rams 15-3 at home on Feb. 25, 2023.
After making two starts in her freshman year last season, Hines has started both games to kick off the 2025 season. The sophomore has tallied 22 saves so far on 71 shots faced, which is good for a .361 save percentage, an improvement on her .307 mark in 10 appearances last season.
Despite the results, Liberty has shown a marked improvement in the draw circle to begin the year. Led by midfielder Katie Colavito with nine, the Lady Flames outdrew Virginia 17-12 and earned eight against UNC. In two games against the same opponents last season, Liberty totaled 17 draw controls.
