
Liberty's Frick, Goodnight Receive American Conference Weekly Honors

LYNCHBURG, Va. - Liberty freshmen Gwyneth Frick and Mercy Goodnight both received weekly honors from the American Conference, announced today.
Frick was named American Conference Freshman Swimming Athlete of the Week, while Goodnight was voted American Conference Freshman Diving Athlete of the week.
They are the second and third Liberty student-athletes to receive weekly honors from the American Conference. Aly Bozzuto was named American Conference Swimming Athlete of the Week on Nov. 4.
These two helped Liberty to a second-place finish at the seventh-annual TYR '85 Invite.
A native of Warrenton, Va., Frick won all five events she entered. She opened the weekend by winning the 200 IM in 1:59.77, a time which is the second fastest by an American Conference swimmer this season. She then led off the winning 400 medley relay in 54.04, as Liberty won in 3:35.65. She led off Liberty's victorious 200 medley relay in 25.16 on Saturday. Frick then claimed the 100 backstroke in 52.97, the second best 100 back by an American Conference swimmer this season. On Sunday, her American Conference-leading 1:56.10 won the 200 backstroke, sealing her unbeaten weekend in the pool.
Hailing from Amarillo, Texas, Goodnight had the best meet of her collegiate career to date, earning A Finals appearances on all three disciplines at the TYR '85 Invite. She narrowly missed qualifying for the NCAA Zone Diving Championships on one-meter, scoring 263.05 in prelims before finishing fifth with 258 points in finals. On Saturday, she earned her first career Zone qualification, scoring 294.40 in three-meter prelims before scoring 267.40 to finish fourth in the A Final. On Sunday, she placed fifth on platform with 177.15 points in the A Final.
The Lady Flames' next regular-season meet will be Jan. 16-17, as Liberty will compete at UNC Asheville.
