LYNCHBURG, Va. – In its second NCAA Women's soccer Championship appearance in three years, Liberty will travel to Clemson, S.C., to take on the No. 8 Tigers. The contest is set for Friday at 6 p.m. at Historic Riggs Field.
Liberty (14-3-4) will take on No. 8 Clemson (7-5-5) for the third time in program history. Clemson secured both meetings with a 4-0 triumph in 2007 and a 5-0 victory in 2018.
The Lady Flames will be competing in the NCAA tournament for the ninth time in program history. They will be seeking their first-ever triumph in the event.
Liberty is currently slotted at No. 45 in the RPI rankings and Clemson is No. 38.
The Lady Flames most recently visited No. 4 Georgia in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Despite a goal from Ivy Garner and a stellar performance from goalkeeper Ainsley Leja, Liberty fell 2-1 on the road.
Liberty secured its second Conference USA Championship title and automatic qualifying bid in three seasons, topping No. 8 seed Missouri State 3-0 in the title game. Liberty was both the CUSA Regular Season Co-Champions and the CUSA Tournament champions. CUSA Player of the Year Ivy Garner broke a CUSA Championship record with five goals in the event en route to being named the Championship Offensive MVP. CUSA Defensive Player of the Year, Lauren Littleton led a Liberty defense that allowed a single goal and fewer than ten shots across three games to be named the CUSA Championship Defensive MVP. Midfielder Bri Myers and forward Lauren Flax were selected to the CUSA All-Tournament team.
The first round of the NCAA Championships is hosted by the higher seed in the matchup. Broadcast information for the event will be announced when available. For ticket information, visit NCAA.com/tickets.
