
Lady Flames Open American Conference Era With 194-155 Win Over ECU

LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Liberty swimming & diving team defeated the visiting East Carolina Pirates, 194-155, in a two-day meet which wrapped up on Saturday at Liberty Natatorium
With the win, the Lady Flames open the season at 1-0. Meanwhile, ECU falls to 1-2 with the loss.

- For the meet, Liberty won three out of four relays and 12 out of 13 individual swimming events. East Carolina won both diving events.
- Liberty's Aly Bozzuto won three events this weekend (50 free, 100 breaststroke, 200 breaststroke), while the Lady Flames got two victories from Emma Herrera (500 free, 1000 free), Kamryn Cannings (100 free, 200 free) and Gwyneth Frick (100 back, 200 IM).
- On Saturday, Liberty posted a 1-2 finish in the 200 IM (Gwyneth Frick, Sadie Stricklin), while ECU took the top two spots in one-meter diving.
- Emily Harstad came back for the victory in the 200 fly, edging ECU's Tanith Mueller (2:04.74) in the closest race of the day.
- Liberty leads the all-time series against East Carolina, 3-1, including 2-0 at Liberty Natatorium. The Pirates won the last meeting, 185.5-167.5 on Jan. 18, 2025 in Greenville, N.C.
- This is Liberty's first meet as members of the American Conference, which the swimming & diving team joined as associate members on July 1, 2025.
- The meet has special significance to the program, as the Lady Flames are raising funds and awareness for cancer research. It is also the team's alumnae recognition meet, thanking alumnae for their contributions in building a championship program.
