LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Liberty Lady Flames women's soccer team (11-3-4, 6-0-2 CUSA) claimed a share of the 2025 Conference USA regular season title with a 2-0 shutout victory over Sam Houston (8-5-2, 5-2-1 CUSA) on Sunday. The home triumph also secured head coach Lang Wedemeyer's 100th career win at the helm for Liberty.
Liberty has secured the No. 2 seed in the 2025 CUSA Women's Soccer Championship from Nov. 2-7. Osborne Stadium serves as the host for the tournament beginning, next Sunday. The Lady Flames are set to play in the opening game of the event, kicking off at 11 a.m., against No. 7 seed Louisiana Tech.
Defender Lauren Littleton opened the scoring for Liberty in the waning minutes of the first half. After a Liberty corner attempt was thwarted, the ball was kicked out to Carly Keene, who sent the ball across a second time. The cross cleared the players in the penalty area and bounced just outside the reach of the Sam Houston goalkeeper, Katie Bahn. The junior converted on the bouncing ball for her second career goal in as many games.
Liberty dominated the action in the first half. The Lady Flames outshot the Bearkats 16-2.
Ivy Garner added to the lead in the 57th minute with her CUSA-leading, tenth goal of the season. Haley Noblit turned the ball over and quickly found the forward, who made a move around a defender before sending a shot past a sliding goalkeeper.
The Bearkats fought back in the second half, but the Liberty defense held firm. Liberty goalkeeper Peyton Huber made saves in the second half on seven shots faced.
Liberty improves to 5-3-2 at home this season and moves to 3-0 all-time against Sam Houston. The Lady Flames finish the regular season with six consecutive victories, all in conference play.
