
No. 7 Liberty Converts Penalty Corners in 2-1 Home Win Over Saint Joseph’s

LYNCHBURG, Va. – No. 7 Liberty converted on a pair of penalty corners right before halftime, propelling the Lady Flames to a 2-1 victory over Saint Joseph's on Sunday afternoon at the Liberty Field Hockey Field.
Liberty wraps up a 2-0 weekend at home and bolsters its overall record to 12-2 on the year. The Lady Flames remain unbeaten at home at 7-0. Saint Joseph's slips to 7-8 and has lost four straight.
The Lady Flames' pair of penalty corner goals came from Julieta Tornati and Josefina Tomasi, both as just before intermission at the 29th and 30th minutes. Tornati's goal was her third of the year, and Tomasi's was her fourth. Liberty withstood a fourth quarter push from the Hawks to hold on for the win.

Liberty broke through for both of its goals late in the second quarter to take a 2-0 lead into halftime. The Lady Flames' first goal came at the 28:48 mark. Following the insert and stick stop, Dara Semmartin sent a behind-the-back touch pass to Julieta Tornati. Tornati ripped a drag flick past a Saint Joseph's defender and goalkeeper Paige Kieft into the cage.
Liberty earned another corner less than a minute later and made it a 2-0 game. Semmartin sent a ball heading towards the right post that was redirected by Josefina Tomasi into the right side of the goal.
The Hawks made a strong push in the second half, with five shots and five penalty corners in the fourth period. Saint Joseph's earned three penalty corners in the first minute of the final frame, breaking through on the third one. Following a shot from Milou Kluyt that hit the right post, Ava Smith fired a shot into the left corner of the cage at the 45:51 mark for her 12th goal of the year. The Hawks had two more penalty corner chances in the frame but came up empty. The Liberty defense held Saint Joseph's without a shot over the final 10:45.
