Liberty built a 2-1 lead after one half behind goals from Zoé Gaillard and Josefina Tomasi. Gaillard's goal at the 9:01 mark, her team-best seventh of the season and the first goal of the game from either side, came from a crossing pass from Paris Gail-Isaacs after turning over the Owls. Temple's Lucia Magro, who scored both goals for the home side today, tallied a penalty stroke goal in the 12th minute to even the score at 1-all. Tomasi's goal, her fifth of the year, came on a redirect from a Dara Semmartin ball at the 21:55 mark.
Temple applied heavy pressure throughout the second half before breaking through with the equalizer at the 46:29 mark, a Magro goal into the right side on a penalty corner. The Owls outshot the Lady Flames 13-0 in the second half and earned eight penalty corners, compared to only one for Liberty. Diane Saint Martin made nine of her 12 saves after intermission. Temple outshot Liberty 3-0 in the first overtime and earned the only penalty corner of the frame.
In the second overtime, the Lady Flames had four penalty corner opportunities and fired six shots. Liberty's best chances to win it came on consecutive corners in the 76th and 77th minutes. Lou Combrinck saw four of her shots turned aside by the Owls, with the final one being saved by Temple's Marsha Ariesen.
In the shootout, Diane Saint Martin was outstanding with three stops on the Owls' four chances. Liberty's Dara Semmartin (penalty stroke), Lou Combrinck and Julieta Tornati found the back of the cage for the 3-1 result in the shootout.
