
No. 7 Liberty Shuts Out Providence 2-0, Secures Spot in BIG EAST Championship

LYNCHBURG, Va. – No. 7 Liberty scored two fourth quarter goals and earned a 2-0 shutout win over Providence to secure a spot in the 2025 BIG EAST Field Hockey Championship.
Liberty punches its ticket to the BIG EAST Championship for a 10th straight season, improving to 11-2 on the year and a perfect 5-0 in the BIG EAST. All five of the Lady Flames' conference victories have been by shutout, and Liberty recorded its seventh clean sheet of the season.
Tori Griffiths and Lou Combrinck provided the goals in the fourth quarter for the home side. Providence drops to 8-6 on the year and 1-4 in BIG EAST competition.

Liberty scored both of its goals in the final period within 53 seconds of each other. The Lady Flames' first goal came from Tori Griffiths on a penalty corner. Following an insert and stick stop, Julieta Tornati sent a shot toward the right side of the cage that was tipped in by Griffiths at the 54:35 mark for her second goal of the season.
Less than a minute later, Liberty generated another scoring chance and converted. Lou Combrinck drove into the right side of the circle and fired a shot that was saved by Providence goalkeeper Ava Porter. Combrinck put the ensuing rebound into the back of the cage for her sixth goal of the year and a 2-0 home lead at the 55:28 mark.
