
No. 7 Lady Flames to Face Friars, Hawks at Home

LYNCHBURG, Va. – No. 7 Liberty will return home to face Providence and Saint Joseph's in a pair of matches this weekend.
The Lady Flames and the Friars will square off at 1 p.m., Friday afternoon at the Liberty Field Hockey Field. On Sunday, Liberty will take on the Saint Joseph's Hawks at noon. Both games will be carried live on ESPN+.
Liberty comes into the set of matches with a 10-2 overall record and perfect 4-0 BIG EAST Conference mark. The conference-leading Lady Flames can secure a spot in the 2025 BIG EAST Championship, hosted by Liberty Nov. 7-9, with a win over the Friars (8-5, 1-3 BIG EAST). Liberty saw its six-game winning streak snapped on Tuesday night with a 1-0 road loss at No. 3 Virginia. The Lady Flames sit alone atop the BIG EAST standings, one game ahead of both Connecticut (3-1) and Old Dominion (3-1) heading into the final three league regular season matches.
Liberty will face Saint Joseph's (7-6) in Lynchburg for the first time since the 2013 season opener. The Hawks, who are looking to snap a two-game losing skid, will play at Richmond on Friday night before traveling to the Hill City.

- With a win, Liberty will clinch a spot in the BIG EAST Field Hockey Championship for a 10th straight season. The Lady Flames are in their 10th year in the conference. Liberty is the host for this year's BIG EAST Championship for the second time in program history and first time since 2018. The event will take place Nov. 7-9 at the Liberty Field Hockey Field.
- This will be Liberty's first home game since Oct. 3, a 1-0 BIG EAST home win over Old Dominion. The Lady Flames are 5-0 at home in 2025 and have recorded three straight shutouts on their home turf. Liberty carries a nine-match home winning streak, dating back to the 2024 campaign.
- Liberty redshirt junior Kyleigh Faust and freshman Morena Giacosa were both tabbed to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Tuesday. Faust scored the game-winning goal in the Lady Flames' 1-0 road triumph at Georgetown on Friday, and Giacosa played a key role in securing Liberty's sixth shutout of 2025.
- Liberty is a perfect 11-0 all-time versus Providence. Last year, the Lady Flames edged the Friars 2-1 in Providence, R.I. Two years ago in Lynchburg, Liberty prevailed 5-2.
- This will be the fourth all-time matchup between Liberty and Saint Joseph's and first since the fall 2021 campaign. The Lady Flames have a 2-1 edge in the overall series. The two teams last met in the 2021 NCAA Field Hockey Championship Sweet 16, a 2-0 triumph for Liberty. Liberty went to reach the NCAA title game that year. Saint Joseph's wrote a similar story last year, reaching the 2024 NCAA title game.
- Liberty is currently No. 6 in the NCAA Field Hockey RPI listing.
- The Lady Flames have been ranked inside the top 10 in each of the last six Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Polls.
- Liberty ranks fourth in the nation and first in the BIG EAST in shutouts per game (0.50). The Lady Flames also are No. 7 in the country in goals-against average (0.92) and No. 8 in assists per game (2.83), leading the conference in both categories.
- Individually, Lou Combrinck is the conference leader in assists per game (0.83) and ninth nationally in the category. Dara Semmartin is right behind Combrinck at No. 2 in the league in assists per game (0.67), ranking No. 17 in the country. Freshman goalkeeper Diane Saint Martin is No. 5 nationally and first in the BIG EAST in goals-against average (0.84).
- Through seven weeks of the season, the Lady Flames have earned 17 total weekly awards (two national, 15 BIG EAST) – two NFHCA Division I Offensive Player of the Week honorable mention selections, four defensive player of the week awards, three offensive player of the week honors, two freshman of the week accolades and six weekly honor roll selections.
- Liberty has surrendered only three goals in five home games while scoring 11 times. Eight different Lady Flames have scored at home, led by Morena Giacosa, Josefina Tomasi and Julieta Tornati with two goals apiece.
