LYNCHBURG, Va. – Junior forward Lou Combrinck scored the only goal of the game early in the fourth period, propelling No. 12 Liberty to a 1-0 shutout victory over No. 4 Duke on Sunday afternoon at the Liberty Field Hockey Field.
Liberty improves to 4-1 on the season with its second win of the weekend and second straight shutout. The Lady Flames bested William & Mary 5-0 on Friday in Lynchburg. Meanwhile, Duke drops to 4-2.
This is the highest home ranked win in Liberty field hockey program history.

Liberty's Lou Combrinck broke a scoreless tie in the 48th minute. After senior Martu Cian put a shot on cage, Combrinck rebounded Cian's effort and found the back of the goal for her second goal of the season and a 1-0 lead.
The Lady Flames' defensive unit and goalkeeper Michaela Skinner withstood a strong effort from the Blue Devils in the closing minutes. Duke earned six penalty corners and fired 10 shots in the final frame, but Skinner (four saves) and the defense held firm. The Blue Devils earned their final penalty corner with just six seconds left, but Alaina McVeigh's shot was blocked by Combrinck to close out the contest.

Old Dominion was selected to finish second in the preseason poll. Reagan Underwood was named this year's Preseason BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year and to the Preseason All-BIG EAST team.
This will be 19th all-time meeting between the two squads. Liberty is 10-8 all-time against ODU. Last year, the Lady Flames topped the Monarchs 2-0 in the regular season matchup before falling 3-1 to ODU in the 2023 BIG EAST Championship title game.
