Big First Half Pushes Liberty Past ETSU 3-1

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – The Lady Flames scored two goals in the final 10 minutes of the first half to create a 3-0 lead at the midway point, leading to a 3-1 victory at ETSU. Sallie Garner, Ava Goodman and Isabella Wedemeyer each scored in the first half to guide the Lady Flames to their fourth consecutive triumph to start the 2024 season.
Redshirt sophomore Sallie Garner and freshman Isabella Wedemeyer each scored their first career goals on Sunday.
Off a corner opportunity, Elise Graf lobbed the ball to the center of the penalty box. After a few deflections, the ball found Sallie Garner's right foot, feeding the goal to the far side of the net for the contest's first score. The defender earned her third point of the season, assisting on the opening goal in last Thursday's 2-1 win over VCU.
Avery Paulson sent a corner into Ava Goodman who found space at the top of the 6-yard box. Ava Goodman didn't get a clean shot off and was initially stopped by ETSU goalkeeper Ashton Blair. Off Blair's initial stop, the ball fell to her side and slowly bounced into the goal off the near post.
Haley Noblit used space at the near corner of the penalty area to open a lane for a cross towards the front of the goal box. Isabella Wedemeyer timed her run perfectly, needing one touch to send the goal back to the near side of the net past a frozen Blair.
The Buccaneers grabbed its only goal of the game off a well-placed header from Reagan Fitzgerald off a cross from Georgia Shields.

- Sunday was filled with many firsts for the Lady Flames. Sallie Garner and Isabella Wedemeyer both grabbed their first career goals. Goodman netted her first goal of the season, while freshman Haley Noblit added her first career point.
- Liberty has scored the first goal in all four contests this season. The Lady Flames grabbed the opening score in five consecutive games to open the 2023 season.
