Lady Flames Secure a 2-0 Victory over In-State Foe, Old Dominion, in Home Opener
8/18/2024 4:52:00 PM | Women's Soccer
To open the scoring, Engle and forward Ivy Garner crashed the box as Garner's dribble was deflected right to Engle's feet. The redshirt sophomore netted her second goal of the season, sending the ball to the far post from the top of the penalty box.
The defense in front of Liberty goalkeepers Grace Workman (1-0) and Peyton Huber (1-0) held firm despite a consistent push by the Monarchs to end the first half. The Lady Flames allowed just six shots on goal despite five corner opportunities for ODU.
Freshman Avery Paulson provided insurance with just over 15 minutes remaining in the contest. Forward Ava Goodman sent a sharp centering pass from the right side of the field that found a pressing Paulson at the top of the goal box. Paulson scored her first collegiate goal by gaining position on her defender and sending it past a lunging ODU goalkeeper.
Liberty begins the 2024 season with a pair of victories. The Lady Flames won their first 11 games to kick off the 2023 season.
VCU (1-2) comes to Lynchburg Thursday for a contest at 5 p.m. before Liberty travels to take on ETSU on Aug. 25.
