
Liberty Comes up Short 12-11 in OT Against Jacksonville

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Lady Flames gave it their best shot but fell 12-11 in overtime to Jacksonville to conclude their regular season on Saturday. The Dolphins were carried to victory by a six-point performance from Mackenzie Boyle (4 g, 2 a). Liberty honored its graduating senior class in a pregame ceremony. Saturday's game was held at the Liberty Lacrosse Field.
Liberty (6-11, 3-3 ASUN) wraps up the regular season with a 12-11 overtime loss to Jacksonville (8-8, 6-0 ASUN). It is the second consecutive meeting that the programs needed an extra period to find a victor. The Dolphins topped the Lady Flames 14-13 in overtime when they faced off in the 2023 ASUN Championship final.
The Lady Flames recognized its senior class of six graduates before the match. Mia Blackburn, Jordan Sheive, Katelyn Weissend, Mackenzie Lehman, Kelly Scott and Olivia Glaze were all celebrated for their achievements during their time at Liberty.
Cami Merkel's five scores on Saturday helped Liberty acquire as large as a 9-5 lead in the contest. Glaze added a four-point performance with two goals and two assists. Goalkeeper Mara Tellers made a game-high 10 saves in the contest.
The Lady Flames await its fate for the 2024 Women's Lacrosse Championship.
Liberty finishes the spring season with a 2-8 record at home. The Lady Flames drop to 1-12 all-time against Jacksonville.

Liberty held a 6-4 lead at halftime and led 9-5 with 2:04 remaining in the second quarter. The Dolphins rattled off two goals in the final two minutes of the half and netted back-to-back goals to open the third quarter.
At the 12:05 mark in the third quarter, Jacksonville's Hudson Gentile netted her second goal of the contest to knot the game at 9-9. Liberty was able to take the lead two more times during the second half but the Dolphins sealed the victory with an overtime goal from Mackenzie Boyle. It was Jacksonville's first lead since the 6:31 mark in the first quarter.
