
Liberty Falls 10-9 to Jacksonville in Final Moments of ASUN Semifinals

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Lady Flames' 2024 season came to a conclusion on Thursday in a 10-9 loss to Jacksonville in the 2024 Atlantic Sun Women's Lacrosse Championship semifinal. The contest was held at Rock Stadium in Jacksonville, Fla.
No. 4 seed Liberty (6-12, 3-3 ASUN) fell 10-9 to No. 1 seed Jacksonville (9-8, 6-0 ASUN) despite holding a 9-6 lead with 10:38 remaining in the fourth quarter. The Dolphins netted the final four scores of the game, capped of with the game-winning goal from Lauren Ellis with just five seconds remaining in the game.
Katie Colavito (three goals) and Ava Rajala (two goals, two assists) were awarded with selections to the 2024 ASUN All-Tournament team after the game. Colavito led all players with her hat trick while Rajala paced all athletes with four points.
With 2:15 remaining in the second quarter, the game was paused due to lightning in the area. The game was tied at 4-4 when both teams headed to the locker room. After a 30-minute delay, Liberty took advantage of the short period with a Rajala score with 53 seconds on the clock.
Neither team held a better than a two-goal lead on Thursday until Liberty snagged an 9-6 lead on a Taiva Reinertson goal with 10:38 left in the fourth. Liberty held Jacksonville scoreless for an 18-minute period between the 11:25 mark in the third and 8:16 remaining in the fourth. Jacksonville battled back from a multi-goal deficit in back-to-back games facing Liberty. The Lady Flames held a 9-5 lead last Saturday before falling 12-11 in overtime and owned a 9-6 lead on Thursday.
