
Ryan and Flames in 2nd Place After Day 2 of CUSA Championship

TEXARKANA, Ark. - Stellar play by Liberty's Josh Ryan moved himself and the Flames into second place following day two's action at the 2024 Conference USA Men's Golf Championship.
Ryan was the only player in the 40-man field to card a sub-70 round, finishing the day with a 3-under par 69 at the Texarkana Country Club (par 72, 6,969 yards).
Ryan birdied three of his final six holes of play on Tuesday, including a birdie at the drivable par-4, No. 17 hole (291 yards). The sophomore was pin high off the tee and two-putted to secure the sub-70 round.
With wind gusts over 10 MPH, the Texarkana Country Club played at 1.5 strokes higher during the second round (first-round scoring average: 73.63; second-round scoring average: 75.13).
With Ryan's 10th round in the 60s this season, Ryan moved into second place in the individual standings with an overall 4-under par 140 (71-69).
Ryan enters tomorrow's final round of stroke play trailing clubhouse leader Luke Fuller of Western Kentucky by one shot (5-under par 139/68-71).
The Flames posted the second best team score during the blustery day to move into second place with an overall team score of 6-over par 582 (290-292).
Liberty enters tomorrow's final round trailing Louisiana Tech by eight strokes, as the Bulldogs lead the eight-team field with an overall 2-under par 574 (280-294).
All teams will be scoreboard watching tomorrow as they compete to finish inside the top four teams, who will advance to Thursday's match play sessions.
Two rounds of match play will be contested on Thursday, starting with a pair of semifinal matches during the morning session. The winners will square off during the afternoon to determine the 2024 Conference USA Men's Golf champion.
Sam Houston enters the final round in third place with a 9-over par 585 (294-291), while Middle Tennessee holds down fourth place with an 11-over par 587 (287-300).
UTEP enters the final round as the odd team out of match play, holding down fifth place and one shot behind MTSU with a 12-over par 588 (291-297).
Liberty and Louisiana Tech will be the first teams off the tee box at No. 1 at the Texarkana Country Club on Wednesday, starting at 9 a.m. EST/8 a.m. CST).
