
Flames Close Regular Season With Top 5 Finish at Mossy Oak Collegiate

WEST POINT, Miss. – Playing its best golf at the end of the year, the Flames will enter next week's Conference USA Men's Golf Championship on the heels of their top finish this spring.
Liberty finished its final regular season event with a fifth-place showing at the Mossy Oak Collegiate, carding a 5-under par 859 (287-289-283).
On a day when the Mossy Oak Golf Course (par 72, 7,217 yards) played more than two strokes higher than the opening round (round one scoring average: 72.68; round three scoring average: 74.29), the Flames kept pace with several nationally ranked teams.
Liberty closed the event with a 5-under par 283 on Tuesday. Only No. 2 Auburn (11-under par 277) and No. 26 Mississippi State (6-under par 282) posted better final round scores.
The final-round charge for the Flames was led by a career outing from senior Austin Barbin. He matched his career low 18-hole total with a 6-under par 66, allowing him to climb 32 spots on the individual leaderboard.
Barbin finished the tournament tied for 15th place with an overall 3-under par 213 (73-74-66), his best finish of the season.
Josh Ryan led the Flames overall by finishing tied for seventh place with a 5-under par 211 (68-72-71). This marked the ninth time in 10 team events that Ryan has led the Flame in a tournament thanks in part to his team-lead 14 birdies.
The 14-team field featured three other Conference USA teams, which the Flames will see at next week's 2024 Conference USA Men's Golf Championship (April 22-25 – Texarkana Country Club in Texarkana, Ark.).
Liberty finished 14 strokes ahead of Middle Tennessee, who came in eighth place with a 9-over par 873 (291-291-291).
Louisiana Tech finished in ninth place with a 15-over par 879 (292-288-299) and New Mexico State came in 14th place with a 27-over par 891 (293-292-306).
