PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – After handling the stiff coastal breezes during the first day at The Hayt, another windy day caused the Flames to drop down the day two leaderboard.
Entering tomorrow's final round, Liberty is in 11th place with a 29-over par 605 (297-308) following 36 holes of action at the Sawgrass Country Club (par 72, 6,966 yards).
The Flames carded their highest team 18-hole total of the year (20-over par 308) and dropped five spots down the leaderboard.
With sustained winds over 10 MPH, the Sawgrass Country Club once again played well above average. The 14-team field played the course at a scoring average of 75.17, more than three shots over par.
While nearly every team in the field struggled to play even level golf on the day, the nation's No. 1 team proved why it is the best during the 2023-24 season.
No. 1 North Carolina carded a 5-under par 283 to move to the top of the leaderboard. The Tar Heels will enter tomorrow's final round in first place with an overall 4-under par 572 (289-283).
North Carolina is three shots clear of No. 21 Alabama (282-293) and No. 26 Ohio State (286-289), as they share second place with an overall 1-under par 575.
The only other team without a double-digit over-par score is No. 13 Virginia, who is in fourth place with an overall 7-over par 583 (294-289).
A total of 11 players in the 84-man field are currently in red figures. Ohio State's Adam Wallin (70-70) and Alabama's Canon Claycomb (69-71) share the individual clubhouse lead with a 4-under par 140.
Liberty's top two players in the field are Josh Ryan and Brett Reid. The pair are currently tied for 27th place with a 5-over 149 with matching scorecards (74-75).
The Flames will close out their stay at The Hayt on Monday, going off the No. 10 tee at 8:50 along with golfers from UCF and Jacksonville.
