
No. 2 Seed UTEP Sweeps No. 7 Seed Liberty in CUSA Quarters

EL PASO, Texas – The host UTEP Miners, the second seed, swept seventh-seeded Liberty (25-18, 25-13, 25-22) in the quarterfinal round of the 2024 Conference USA Volleyball Championship on Friday at Memorial Gym. Â
With the win, their seventh in a row, the Miners (27-4) advance to tomorrow's second semifinal match at 4:30 p.m. Eastern (2:30 p.m. Mountain) against the winner of tonight's match between third-seeded New Mexico State and sixth-seeded Sam Houston. UTEP has eliminated Liberty (13-18) from the conference tournament in the quarterfinal round both years that the Lady Flames have been in CUSA.

Notable Numbers
- For the match, UTEP outhit the Lady Flames .439-.058. That is the highest hitting percentage against Liberty this season. The Miners led in kills (45-25), assists (38-24), digs (30-25) and blocks (10.5-5). UTEP served up five aces and 13 service errors, compared to a 6/3 split for Liberty.
- Ema Uskokovic (.348), Kaya Weaver (.667) and Sara Pustahja (.500) tied for the match lead with nine kills each for the Miners. Danika Washington posted a match-high eight blocks, while Kalia Kohler led all players with 18 assists.
- Kamryn Bacus led Liberty with eight kills in her final career match, while senior Madison Blane scored seven kills and finished tied with classmate Kate Gammer for the team lead with two aces. Senior Kate Gammer collected a match-high nine digs, while Charli Morris dished out a team-best 12 assists.Â
- The Lady Flames built an early 9-5 lead in set two, but UTEP responded by outscoring Liberty 19-4 over the remainder of the set, taking a commanding 2-0 match lead.
- UTEP holds a 6-0 all-time record against Liberty in volleyball, going 3-0 versus the Lady Flames both last year and this year.
- This was the first time since 2016-17 (UTSA vs. Florida Atlantic) that the same two teams met in the CUSA quarterfinals in back-to-back years.
- Liberty seniors Kamryn Bacus, Madison Blane, Autumn Flowers, Kate Gammer, Elizabeth Helmich and Erica Lowery all ended their careers tonight. Â
- Blane's 153 blocks this season finished shy of Loren Thomas' (2011) program single-season rally-scoring record. Blane has set a new program single-season rally-scoring record with 136 block assists. The senior middle blocker finishes with 443 career blocks, good for fourth all-time at Liberty.
- Gammer's 408 kills this season were the most by a Lady Flame in a single season since Amelia Johnson scored 457 kills in 2019. Gammer finished her career with 1,204 career kills, good for 12th in program history.
- Lowery is 18th all-time at Liberty with 1,115 digs as a Lady Flame. She collected 1,151 digs between her time at Texas A&M and Liberty.
- Kamryn Bacus scored 1,382 career kills between Lipscomb and Liberty, including 956 as a Lady Flame.
