LYNCHBURG, Va. – Temple topped No. 18 Liberty by a 5-1 score in the Lady Flames' BIG EAST Conference home opener, Friday afternoon at the Liberty Field Hockey Field.
Liberty falls to 5-5 on the year and 1-2 in the BIG EAST. The Lady Flames have lost back-to-back games and four of their last five matches. Temple improves to 6-4 this season and 2-1 in the BIG EAST. This is the Owls' first win over Liberty since the Lady Flames joined the BIG EAST in 2016. Liberty entered the contest 12-0 against Temple since 2016 and 13-1 against the Owls all-time.

Alize Maes scored what proved to be the game-winning goal at the 34:04 mark, firing a penalty corner shot into the left side for a 2-1 lead for the visitors. Just 26 seconds into the fourth period, Temple added to its lead, as Peyton Rieger scored on a rebound in front.
