Garner’s Late Goal Pushes Liberty Past UTEP 1-0

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Ivy Garner scored with just two minutes remaining to send the Lady Flames past UTEP in a 1-0 defensive battle. Liberty (10-1-2, 2-1 CUSA) secured the winning result over the Miners (3-6-3, 0-3-1 CUSA) from Osborne Stadium on Thursday night.
The Conference USA foes battled to a scoreless tie for 87 minutes. Liberty maintained consistent pressure throughout the night, recording 19 shots compared to six from UTEP. Both teams exchanged high-level chances, but stout defenses kept the game scoreless.
Ivy Garner finally pushed through with a picture-perfect strike from the top of the 18-yard box. Garner secured her third goal of the season, sending her shot under the crossbar and past the outstretched Tionna Taylor.
Thanks to the clutch score from Garner, Liberty avoided a second consecutive shutout by a conference at home. The Lady Flames fell 3-0 to FIU last Friday.

- Ivy Garner's game-winning goal in the 88' minute was the latest score to claim a victory in regulation for the Lady Flames since Meredith King broke a scoreless tie to top North Alabama 1-0 in the 85' minute on March 7, 2021.
- Liberty avoided a second consecutive shutout after a 3-0 defeat to FIU last Friday. The last time Liberty was held scoreless for two consecutive games was the opening games of the 2021 fall season (Aug. 19 and Aug. 22) when the Lady Flames fell to Virginia Tech (3-0) and Tennessee Tech (1-0).
- With the victory, Liberty earned win No. 40 since 2021 and is just one of nine teams in the country to have reached at least 40 triumphs in that span.
