HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison got past No. 18 Liberty by a 3-2 score, Tuesday afternoon at the JMU Field Hockey Complex.
JMU (12-4) picks up its 12th win of the 2024 campaign and improves to 8-3 at home. Liberty slips to 9-7 and has lost back-to-back contests.
Senior Tuti Dell Anna led the way for the Liberty offense with two goals, giving her a team-high 10 goals on the season. Freshman Dara Semmartin picked up her ninth and 10th assists of 2024.
Redshirt senior Reagan Underwood made her 95th career start in a Liberty uniform, a new program record.

Liberty cut into the lead in the 40th minute, as Tuti Dell Anna scored on a penalty corner, assisted by Dara Semmartin. JMU responded with a goal at the 50:03 mark from Mia Julian to up the lead back to two, 3-1. The Lady Flames' Dell Anna found the back of the cage again at the 57:13 mark, assisted by Semmartin again. Dell Anna paces the squad with ten goals, and Semmartin leads all Liberty players with 10 assists. The JMU defense held Liberty to no shots over the final 2:47 of the match to preserve the narrow victory.

Liberty will close out the regular season with a home BIG EAST contest against the Georgetown Hoyas (3-12, 1-5 BIG EAST), Friday at 3 p.m. The game can be seen on ESPN+. If Liberty defeats Georgetown, it will clinch a spot in the 2024 BIG EAST Field Hockey Championship for a ninth straight year.

- Dell Anna notches her first career 10-goal season. In 2023, Dell Anna scored five goals in 20 matches. This year, the Córdoba, Argentina native has 10 goals in 16 games.
