
No. 18 Liberty Secures Spot in BIG EAST Championship With 6-0 Win Over Georgetown

The Lady Flames have now made the BIG EAST Tournament in all nine years in the league since joining the conference prior to the 2016 season. Liberty also secures its seventh straight double-digit win season, improving to 10-7 overall and 4-3 in the BIG EAST to close out the regular season. Georgetown falls to 3-13 on the year and 1-6 in the BIG EAST. The Hoyas, who have lost seven straight games, will finish their regular season slate at Longwood, Sunday afternoon.
Liberty has earned the No. 4 seed for the 2024 BIG EAST Field Hockey Championship and will face top-seeded and regular season champion No. 10 Connecticut (15-3, 6-1 BIG EAST) in the semifinal round, next Friday at 1 p.m. at Providence's Lennon Family Field.
Making her second straight start and first-ever start at home, redshirt sophomore forward Tori Griffiths notched her first career two-goal game in the win. Senior Ellie Livingston joined Griffiths with two goals of her own, a new career high. Josefina Tomasi and Lou Combrinck added goals as well. Goalkeeper Michaela Skinner and the Liberty defense recorded their third BIG EAST shutout of the year and sixth shutout overall.

Turning Point
Liberty struck early in the sixth minute, as Tori Griffiths tipped a ball from in front past Hoyas goalkeeper Ella Fahey. With 1:00 left in the first quarter, Liberty's Reagan Underwood kept Georgetown off the scoreboard with a defensive save off an Elizabeth Rossotti shot.
The Lady Flames scored four goals in a span of only 5:05 late in the second quarter to surge ahead 5-0. Ellie Livingston delivered first, redirecting a Dara Semmartin penalty corner offering into the cage from the right side. Josefina Tomasi scored an unassisted goal at the 25:39 mark, a highlight-reel blast into the right side for a 3-0 home lead. Griffiths (26:03 mark) and Livingston (28:45 mark) added their second goals of the day to push the advantage to 5-0 at the half.

- Tori Griffiths and Ellie Livingston both notched career highs with two goals each. Griffiths has scored all three of her career goals in the last three games. Livingston is up to five goals this season.
