
No. 19 Liberty Uses Scoring Barrage to Down Quinnipiac 9-0, Friday

The Lady Flames improve to 8-5 overall and move to 3-2 in the BIG EAST, their first time this year being above .500 in conference play. The Bobcats slip to 2-13 on the season and 0-5 in league competition.
It was a game of milestones for Liberty, with Lou Combrinck notching her first career three-goal game. Freshman Josefina Tomasi recorded her first career two-goal game, while fellow freshmen Dara Semmartin, Malena Magnano and Mary Hazel Davis scored their first collegiate goals.
Liberty has three straight shutouts, winning by a 15-0 combined margin. Lady Flames goalkeeper Michaela Skinner made two saves in recording her fifth shutout of 2024.

Turning Point
Liberty turned a 3-0 halftime lead into a seven-goal advantage in the first 7:19 of the second half to distance itself further from visiting Quinnipiac. The Lady Flames' four third quarter goals came in a span of 5:17 (32:01 mark to 37:19 mark).
Senior Ellie Livingston got the scoring started the second half with a redirected shot into the cage following a Dara Semmartin reverse shot towards the right post. Lady Flames junior Lou Combrinck completed her hat trick with a penalty corner at the 35:19 mark, assisted by Dara Semmartin. Just over a minute later, Malena Magnano scored her first career goal, a sliding effort on a rebound in the 37th minute. Following Magnano's goal, Semmartin scored her first career goal on a penalty stroke at the 37:19 mark. Liberty scored two more times (Tomasi and Mary Hazel Davis) in the fourth quarter for a total of six goals in the final 30 minutes of play.
Key Stats & Notes
- Lou Combrinck notched her first career hat trick today to give her seven goals on the season. The junior's previous career high of two goals came last year at home against Providence (Sept. 22, 2023).
- Combrinck is the second Liberty player to record a hat trick this year. Senior Martu Cian had the other one in a 4-1 road win at Kent State, Sept. 1.
- Josefina Tomasi notched her fifth and sixth goals of the season. Tomasi paces all Liberty freshmen with six goals.
- Freshman Dara Semmartin matched a season high and career high with two assists. The defender leads Liberty with seven assists on the season and has four in her last three games.

Liberty will welcome Longwood (4-7) to town on Sunday for a 1 p.m. game at the Liberty Field Hockey Field. Sunday is Senior Day for the program. Prior to the contest, Liberty will honor its seven seniors: Reagan Underwood, Martu Cian, Ellie Livingston, Tuti Dell Anna, Danielle Hamm, Ella Murphy and Corey Dykema (practice player).
This will be the 14th all-time matchup between the Lady Flames and Lancers. Liberty has won nine of the 13 meetings. Last year, Liberty bested Longwood 7-1 on the road.
