LYNCHBURG, Va. – Liberty's record unbeaten streak came to an end on Saturday as the visiting New Mexico State Aggies blanked the Lady Flames, 2-0. The defeat is the Lady Flames' first loss since Sept. 11, 2022.
With the road win, the Aggies (7-5-1, 4-0 CUSA) maintain sole possession of first place in Conference USA.

Following the setback, Liberty (11-1, 2-1 CUSA) concluded its NCAA Division I leading unbeaten streak of 24 games (21-0-3). Liberty was the last Division l team with a perfect record remaining in 2023.
Liberty nearly got on the board early, but Ava Goodman's shot banged off the right post. Liberty was not able to capitalize on the rebound bounding across the goal frame.
The Lady Flames had a scoring chance minutes later, but Chloe Marr's shot bounced off the top of the crossbar from just outside the penalty area.
Coming out of the half, Liberty generated immediate pressure, at one point getting three shots off in a flurry. However, the Aggies' defense held strong to hold on for the shutout.
Saturday's matchup was the first ever between the two programs.
Scoring Summary
26' – New Mexico State (Bianca Chacon, Megan Ormson)
58' – Loma McNeese (Ariana Leamons)
Quote from Head Coach Lang Wedemeyer
"We knew they were going to be physical and I think it took us out of our game. Missing that easy goal early swung the momentum a little. They are a good team and conference games are going to be tough. We've got to find a way to recoup from this and for the next game against FIU."
