MIAMI, Fla. – The Liberty women's soccer team secured a crucial point in the Conference USA standings in Saturday night's match at FIU with a 0-0 draw.
Following the result, Liberty moves to 11-1-1 overall and 2-1-1 in the CUSA standings. The Panthers remain one point ahead of Liberty with a 2-0-2 CUSA record (7-3-2 overall).
Liberty had chances to score throughout but could not maintain consistent pressure or push one through. The Lady Flames forced FIU to make six saves in the match.
Ivy Garner had a chance with just minutes remaining. The forward breezed by her defender on the outside of the penalty box, but she put her shot just high over the crossbar.
The Liberty defense denied many Panther's attacks and excelled at clearing the box in front of the goalkeeper Ainsley Leja. The junior keeper was forced to make just two saves on Saturday night.
Quote from Head Coach Lang Wedemeyer
"It was a hard-fought game, a very gritty game. There was not a lot of flow to it. We created enough chances to win, but we were not able to finish it off. We will take the point and regroup for next week."
