LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Liberty women's soccer team improved to 2-0 to open the 2023 season after a 1-0 victory at home over Delaware Sunday afternoon at Osborne Stadium. Midfielder Ivy Garner scored in the 16th minute after a throw-in from forward Chloe Marr bounced to her in the middle of the 18-yard box.
The Lady Flames improve to 2-0 for the first time in their 36-year history as a program and 2-1 facing the Blue Hens. Head Coach Lang Wedemeyer has been at the helm for all three matchups.
Delaware struggled to generate quality scoring chances. The Blue Hens managed just six shots with just two on goal while falling to 1-1 in 2023.
Liberty was facing a tough test hosting a Delaware team coming off a season-opening 1-0 win over Syracuse. The Lady Flames were coming off short rest after postponing Thursday night's matchup at VCU to Friday afternoon, a game Liberty took 2-1.

Thoughts from Head Coach Lang Wedemeyer
"It was a gritty game for us, especially after having our game with VCU postponed and getting one less day of rest. There are definitely places for us to improve, but a great start to the season."
