
Eagles Blank Lady Flames 5-0 to Complete Twin Bill Sweep

The visiting FGCU Eagles built a 3-0 lead in the first inning and blanked Liberty 5-0 in Saturday’s second game of a doubleheader to compete the twin bill sweep at Kamphuis Field at Liberty Softball Stadium.
The Eagles (22-13) improve to 4-1 in the ASUN Conference after blanking Liberty by scores of 1-0 and 5-0 today. The Lady Flames fall to 17-12, 3-2 in ASUN play following their first instance of back-to-back ASUN losses since April 2, 2021 against Kennesaw State.

Notable Numbers
- Both teams recorded five hits, while the Lady Flames committed three errors. Liberty left nine runners on base compared to five stranded for the Eagles.
- Angelina Bonilla (6-3) earned her third shutout of the season, a complete-game five-hitter during which she walked four and struck out four.
- Paige Bachman fell to 5-5 on the season, yielding five runs (one earned) on five hits, walking four and fanning three.
- Reigning ASUN Player of the Week Tayli Filla batted 2-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored for FGCU, while Tiffany Meek went 1-for-2 with one RBI. Neely Peterson (1-for-3) doubled.
- Caroline Hudson batted 2-for-4 with a double for the Lady Flames, while Rachel Roupe, Brynn McManus ad Devyn Howard all singled.
Turning Point
- FGCU scored three unearned runs in the first. Bachman walked the first two batters, and Filla then bunted, with Bachman throwing wildly to first, allowing one run score, and an errant throw from right field made it 2-0. Meek later beat out an infield hit for a 3-0 lead.
- Liberty left runners on base in six out of the seven innings, including two runners stranded each in the first, third and sixth innings.
Beyond the Box Score
- Liberty honored its alumni prior to today’s doubleheader, as 11 former players came back for Alumni Weekend.
- FGCU is the first ASUN team since Kennesaw State, April 2-3, 2021, to earn a conference series victory over the Lady Flames. Since then, Liberty had won 13 straight ASUN series, including 12 3-0 sweeps. Liberty was 39-1 in its last 40 ASUN regular-season contest prior to today.
- Liberty leads the all-time series against FGCU 6-4. Prior to today, Liberty had swept FGCU in both series (2019, 2022) since joining the ASUN Conference in 2019.
- Today marked the first time in Liberty Softball Stadium history that the Lady Flames have been shut out in back-to-back home games.
- Today was also the first time since joining the ASUN that Liberty had been shut out in back-to-back conference games.
