
Liberty Falls to Kansas 4-3 in Walk-Off Fashion

Kansas broke a 3-3 tie with a walk-off single from Haleigh Harper, giving the Jayhawks a 4-3 victory over Liberty on Friday at Nancy Almaraz Stadium.
Kansas improves to 5-4 on the season, including 2-2 at this week’s Puerto Vallarta College Challenge. Liberty (1-7) sustained its fourth straight loss, falling to 0-2 in Mexico.

Notable Numbers- Liberty outhit Kansas 10-8 for the game, with the Lady Flames committing the lone error. The Lady Flames left nine runners on base, while the Jayhawks stranded just four. Liberty hit 1-for-12 with runners in scoring position, compared to 2-for-4 for Kansas.
- Lizzy Ludwig improved to 2-0 on the season, pitching 3 1/3 innings of three-hit, scoreless softball during which she struck out two. Kansas starter Addison Purvis gave up three runs on seven hits in 3 2/3 innings, walking one and fanning four.
- Karlie Keeney (0-5) drew the loss, allowing one run on four hits, striking out four in 2 2/3 innings of relief. Paige Bachman yielded three runs on four hits, striking out three.
- Olivia Bruno and Haleigh Harper both went 2-for-3 with one RBI, while Bruno homered. Hailey Cripe went 1-for-3 with a homer, two RBI and one run scored.
- For the Lady Flames, Rachel Craine, Rachel Roupe, Alexis Soto and Mary Claire Wilson all recorded two hits. Soto had a triple, while Roupe and Wilson both doubled and scored. Devyn Howard went 1-for-4 with two RBI.
Turning Point- Kansas tied up the score twice, once at 1-1 on a second-inning solo blast by Bruno. After Devyn Howard gave Liberty a 3-1 lead with a two-run single in the top of the fourth, Cripe tied it with a two-run shot in the home half.
- The Lady Flames left two runners on base to end the top of the seventh. Bruno led off the bottom of the seventh by singling to center. A sacrifice bunt sent pinch runner Angela Price to second. Harper then dropped a game-winning single into center, just in front of a diving Wilson.
Beyond the Box Score- Kansas leads the all-time series at 3-0. The last meeting between these two teams came on Feb. 20, 2015 in Gainesville, Fla.
- Liberty is 0-4 in one-run games this season, falling by one run for the third game in a row. Today was Liberty’s second straight walk-off setback.
- The Lady Flames tied a season high with 10 hits, also recording 10 base hits against San Jose State.
