
Ryan and Flames Go Low During 2nd Round at Quail Valley

VERO BEACH, Fla. – Liberty's Josh Ryan matched his career-low 18-hole total, leading the Flames charge up the leaderboard at the 2023 Quail Valley Collegiate Invitational on Sunday.
The Flames posted their lowest 18-hole total of the early 2023-24 season, finishing their second trip around Quail Valley Golf Club (par 72, 7,460 yards) with a 14-under par 274.
Following the second round of the Michigan State-hosted tournament, Liberty is tied for fifth place with an overall 17-under par 559 (285-274). The Flames share the spot on the leaderboard with former ASUN conference foe North Florida (281-278).
Liberty's charge up the leaderboard started during the morning flight when all five of the Flames birdied the lengthy par-5, No. 3 hole (627 yards). During the afternoon round, Liberty continued to find success on the hole, with three birdies and an eagle.
Ryan birdied the hole both times he played it on Sunday, accounting for two of his 13 total birdies on the day. The sophomore tied for the lowest round during the afternoon flight.
Following 36 holes of play, Ryan is currently tied for sixth place with an overall 8-under par 136 (71-65).
Brett Reid carded back-to-back rounds at 2-under par 70 and is currently tied for 20th place with an overall 4-under par 140 (70-70).
Austin Barbin, who eagled the par-5, No. 3 hole during the afternoon, is one shot behind Reid and is tied for 27th place with a 3-under par 141 (72-69).
The 16-team field will return to the course on Monday morning for the final round of play. Foursomes will head out for a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
