Liberty hit a season-best .352 on the way to a 3-0 (25-15, 25-18, 25-20) victory over UNCW on Saturday at Liberty Arena.
With the win, Liberty (3-2) improves to 2-0 at this weekend’s tournament, while UNCW falls to 1-4 with a 1-1 record this weekend.
Notable Numbers
• The Lady Flames outhit the Seahawks, .352-.183, for the match. Liberty also led in kills (48-34), aces (6-1) and digs (46-36). UNCW led 5-4 in blocks.
• Trinity Watts scored a match-high 15 kills at a .500 pace, adding a career-high four aces and nine digs. Kate Phillips posted her second double-double in a row with 11 kills and 11 digs, while Madison Blane hit .462 with eight kills. Delaney Dilfer dished out 40 assists, while Erica Lowery collected 10 digs.
• Katie Lanz scored a team-high 10 kills for the Seahawks, while Jadyn Berry collected 10 digs. Morgan Galligan posted a match-high three blocks.
Turning Point
• Liberty got off to a blistering start, hitting over .700 during the early going. The Lady Flames ended up hitting .457 during the opening set and held UNCW to a .188 attack percentage while racing to a 25-15 win.
Quick Hits
• Liberty is now 3-2 all-time against UNCW in volleyball. UNCW’s last visit to Lynchburg came in 2002, when Liberty swept the Seahawks in the Liberty Invitational.
• Watts hit .500 or better for the second time this season, as she hit .600 during a season-opening win over Elon.
• Dilfer’s 40 assists are the most by a Lady Flame in a three-set match since Amaya Williams’ 45 assists against North Alabama, March 19, 2021.
• Phillips has posted eight double-doubles for her career, including back-to-back double-doubles this weekend.
