
Liberty Earns 6-1 Win at Virginia

Liberty scored three times in the first inning and never looked back, earning its fourth straight win, 6-1 over Virginia on Tuesday at Palmer Park.
With the win, the Lady Flames (18-12) pushed their winning streak to four. Virginia (18-12) saw its three-game winning streak snapped. Both Liberty (at Eastern Kentucky) and Virginia (at NC State) earned three-game conference road sweeps over the weekend.
Liberty swept the season series from the Cavaliers, outscoring them by a combined 12-3.

Notable Numbers
- Liberty outhit UVA 8-2 for the game. The Lady Flames committed the game's only error. The Cavaliers stranded eight runners, while Liberty left five on base.
- Karlie Keeney (9-6) earned the win, striking out three and walking one in 3 1/3 innings of scoreless relief. Naomi Jones yielded one run on two hits, walking four and fanning one in 3 2/3 innings.
- UVA's Aly Rayle (4-2) drew the loss, giving up three runs on three hits, walking two in 2/3 of an inning. Mikayla Hogue and Savanah Henley allowed one earned run each.
- Denay Griffin (two RBI) and Carolina Hudson (triple) both went 2-for-4, while Alexis Soto batted 1-for-3 with a triple and two RBI. Devyn Howard went 1-for-2 with a double, sacrifice fly, one RBI and two runs scored.
- Bailey Winscott went 1-for-1 with a walk and one RBI for the Cavaliers.
Turning Point
- All of Liberty's runs came with two outs. The Lady Flames scored three with two outs in the first, on an RBI single by Griffin and a two-run triple from Soto.
- Liberty led 5-0 before UVA got on the scoreboard with a two-out RBI from Winscott. Keeney entered the circle in relief of Jones, getting out of a first-and-third jam with a popout. The Cavaliers got no closer.

- Liberty is now 10-5 against Virginia in softball under ninth-year head coach Dot Richardson. The Lady Flames have gone 8-1 versus the Cavaliers in the last nine meetings.
- Liberty is 3-0 against teams from the Commonwealth of Virginia this season, including 2-0 over Virginia and 1-0 against James Madison.
