
Liberty Opens Series with 4-2 Win Over UNA

Liberty erased an early 2-0 deficit, rallying with a three-run fifth inning during a series-opening 4-2 win over North Alabama, Saturday at Kamphuis Field at Liberty Softball Stadium.
Liberty (19-12, 4-0 ASUN) extends its winning streak to five games overall, including a perfect 4-0 in conference play. Meanwhile, UNA falls to 22-8 on season and 1-3 in ASUN play.

Notable Numbers
- Liberty outhit UNA 6-5 for the game and both teams stranded five runners. The Lions committed the game’s lone error.
- Kirby (3-3) earned her second win in a row, allowing two runs on five hits, walking two and striking out 10.
- Maci Birdyshaw (9-2) drew the loss, yielding four runs on six hits, walking two and fanning three.
- Denay Griffin batted 2-for-2 with a homer, one RBI and two runs scored. Devyn Howard (1-for-2) homered, scored and drove in two, while Mary Claire Wilson drove in a run with her first career triple.

Turning Point
- Broadfoot’s two-run homer put UNA ahead in the first inning. After Wilson’s fourth-inning RBI triple cut the deficit in half, Liberty went ahead with a three-run fifth.
- Barrett led off the bottom of the fifth with a single before Howard then hit a go-ahead two-run homer. Griffin’s two-out solo shot provided insurance.
