
Liberty Sweeps Lipscomb in Battle for 1st Place in the ASUN

Liberty moved into sole possession of first place in the ASUN with a 3-0 (25-12, 25-22, 31-29) sweep over Lipscomb, Sunday at Liberty Arena.
Liberty and Lipscomb came into the match tied atop the ASUN standings at 9-2. The Lady Flames won their sixth straight match, improving to 17-7 overall and 10-2 in ASUN play. Meanwhile, Lipscomb saw its six-match winning streak snapped, falling to 12-11, 9-3. The Bisons are now in a three-way tie for second place alongside Central Arkansas and Kennesaw State.
Notable Numbers
• Liberty outhit Lipscomb .248-.136 for the match. The Lady Flames also led in kills (45-40), aces (4-2) and blocks (9-7), while the Bisons led 55-54 in digs.
• Kamryn Bacus posted her fourth career double-double (all this season) with a match-high 16 kills and 12 digs to go along with a match-high two aces. Delaney Dilfer totaled 34 assists, 10 digs, one block and one ace. Lydia Burts posted 10 kills and five blocks, while Erica Lowery collected 16 digs. Kate Phillips contributed nine kills and 12 digs, while Julia Mangum posted eight kills and a season-high five blocks.
• Caroline Stogner and Addi Pelham registered 12 kills each for Lipscomb, while Sophia Hudepohl recorded a double-double with 33 assists and 18 digs. Delaney Smith collected 18 digs.
Turning Point
• After Liberty took the first two sets, 25-12 and 25-22, set three featured 18 ties and six lead changes. The Lady Flames led 22-21 before Lipscomb reeled off three straight points to inch ahead at 24-22. Liberty tied it up at 24-all with back-to-back points. In total, Liberty fought off four set-point attempts and the Lady Flames converted on their fourth match-point try. Bacus scored the go-ahead kill for a 30-29 lead before Madison Blane’s kill ended it.
Quick Hits
• Liberty is now 2-6 all-time against Lipscomb in volleyball, snapping a three-match Bison winning streak in the series. The Lady Flames’ last win over Lipscomb before today was a 3-1 victory on Oct. 31, 2019 in the Vines Center.
• Bacus and Dilfer both starred for Lipscomb for the last two seasons before transferring to Liberty. Both were named to the ASUN All-Freshman Team in the spring of 2021, when they helped lead Lipscomb to the ASUN Volleyball Championship title.
• Burts has posted nine straight 10-kill matches, the first Liberty middle blocker since Chelaine McCarty (nine matches, Sept. 15-Oct. 12, 2007) with nine or more consecutive double-digit kill contests.
• Dilfer has now eclipsed the 1,000-assist mark this season, as her 34 assists today push her season total to 1,024. Her 1,024 assists are the most by a Lady Flame since Anna Willey dished out 1,096 assists in 2015.
• The Lady Flames, at 10-2 in ASUN play, have clinched their 15th season with 10 or more conference wins and first since going 11-5 in ASUN matches in 2019.
• Liberty’s current six-match winning streak is its longest since winning six in a row, Sept. 20 through Oct. 4, 2019.
• Dilfer has posted 14 double-doubles this season, the most by a Lady Flame since Karyl Bacon recorded 16 double-doubles in 2010.
• Mangum’s three solo blocks today were the most by a Lady Flame since Lydia Burts posted four solo blocks against Navy, Sept. 10, 2021.
• Set three today was Liberty’s longest set of the season so far. The Lady Flames are 5-3 in extended sets this season.
