
South Carolina Sweeps Liberty

South Carolina swept Liberty 3-0 (25-13, 25-23, 25-18) on Saturday at Maryland's XFINITY Center Pavilion.
With the win, South Carolina (7-1) swept the season series from Liberty (2-5), as the Gamecocks downed the Lady Flames in four sets last weekend in Houston, Texas. Both teams have two matches remaining at the Maryland Invite.
Notable Numbers
• South Carolina hit .400 for the match, compared to .091 for the Lady Flames. The Gamecocks also led in blocks (9-2), aces (8-6) and digs (25-19). The two teams combined for 25 service errors, with 13 for South Carolina and 12 for Liberty.
• Mikayla Shield scored a match-high 11 kills at a .500 pace for South Carolina, while Courtney Koehler dished out a match-high 23 assists and Mikayla Robinson posted a match-high six blocks. Aubrey Ezell served up a match-high four aces.
• Anna Gragg and Casey Goodwin shared Liberty's team-high honors with seven kills apiece. Madi Furtado recorded a career-high three aces and four kills, while Hannah Morris dished out 16 assists.
Match Summary
SET 1
• South Carolina used a strong service game in the opening set, as Ezell served up four out of the Gamecocks' six aces during set one on the way to a 25-13 victory.
SET 2
• The Gamecocks led set two, 22-17, before Liberty went on a four-point rally that featured two aces by Hannah Morris. Leading 22-21, South Carolina sided out and scored once on serve. The Lady Flames fought off one set-point try, but the Shields sent down the winning kill, 25-23.
• During set two, South Carolina outhit Liberty, .346-.208, getting six kills from Shields. The Lady Flames served up four aces in the second set.
SET 3
• Set three went to the Gamecocks, 25-18, as South Carolina outhit the Lady Flames, .478-.062 during the final session. South Carolina's Brittany McLean and Liberty's Furtado recorded four kills apiece during the final session.
Quick Hits
• South Carolina is the first non-conference opponent that Liberty has faced twice in the same regular season, with both meetings in a different location, since facing USC Upstate at home and at Davidson during the 2016 season.
• Saturday's match marked the first time Liberty has played in the state of Maryland since a 3-2 setback at UMBC on Sept. 29, 1998.
